Usually when people think of America they think of all the different stereotypes that come with the diversity of its people. There are many different stereotypes for each race, color, ethnicity and religion. Every one of them is somewhat hurtful to the person it pertains to. Not all of them show it,but they do indeed have psychological effects from the stereotypes said about them. The effects can be fixed if we just cut it the reason for it all together. Stereotype by literal definition is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing, which means you are prejudging somebody or thing by the way they act. My cross country coach always used to say mind over matter. Which here means, will yourself to stop and then make it happen. In an article published by the Huffington Post, it talks about trying to break a natural habit of guessing people’s origin or religious beliefs by their name. “However, religiously labeling people based upon their name is a tricker game to play, one that I'm striving to stop doing thanks to my children's clear example.” Because of people showing this man that he is an example to his children and people around him, he is trying to stop judging and labeling people. They felt so inclined to write a book about the subject. “The picture of American Muslim teens in our book include whites, blacks, Asians, hijabis, non-hijabis--we tried to include as many faces as possible to illustrate the futility of stereotyping a diverse community.” The quote shows that you cannot always stereotype people because it include multiple different aspects of a person. For example, the stereotype that all people with glasses are smart can be stopped because it include many people with glasses that aren't smart. We simply need to disprove the stereotype to stop it, or at least stop being stereotyped as
