In The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, the portrayal of life in Nazi Germany depicted in the novel is accurate, specifically regarding to the indoctrination of the youth, Racism, and the propaganda. The novel tells about this young girl Liesel going to a foster’s home where she is going to live in. During Liesel's days in Molching, Germany , she experience what’s it like having Hitler as a powerful King and what happened during those times.
During the life in Nazi Germany for the youth, Hitler wanted to teach all of the youth that he was the leader and that everyone must obey him. “Hitler wanted young men to value the ideas of discipline, sacrifice, and obedience. The most important was Hitler himself - the Führer. All young Germans were taught to see him as father figure who should given unquestioned loyalty from his people.” (BCC History School).This shows that Hitler had wanted be superior than everyone else. All children has to be loyal to him. “History was distorted to celebrate great German victories and all disasters were blamed on the Communists and the Jews.”(BBC History School). Hitler is trying to change children’s mind in thinking that they are bad people towards them, so as they grow up, they will grow up hating the Communists and the Jews.

“ On the night of May 10, 1933, thousand of Nazi students, … thousands of books and cast them not bonfires.”(Berenbaum,24) The book burnings was to show that Jews are not allowed here because they are traitors. The Nazi’s propaganda became successful throughout Germany which they believe they were involved against something evil. “ German radio devoted most of its airtime to playing martial music, telling human-interest stories about good deeds done … carrying Hitler’s speeches”(Berenbaum, 27) This propaganda made Hitler so famous and powerful that he persuaded everyone that he was not to be
