Many people continue to believe that a woman’s role in the world is to perform her womanly duties such as the cooking, cleaning, having and raising children, and attending to their husband’s sexual desires. Many believe that a women’s place in society absolutely does not hold real higher power or presence in the world. Although many are stubborn to stereotype women in this way to see them as the weaker sex. In the pieces studied in both fiction and non-fiction literature the women in the works have shown much admiration. Women are being treated every single day as second-class citizens. Although we are all humans, women are seen as less worthy or wanted than men in many cultures. In the stories, I Am Nujood, Age 10 and divorced and Dessert Flower, the two women share very similar stories. They both are based on a girl who lives in a rural country where it is normal to be given away to be married to a man far much older than they are at a very young age. Both girls unhappy with their fate and the life they are forced into run away. Both fighting for themselves, wanting only a better destiny then what was forced upon them. These young innocent girls try to make a change for themselves on their own. These two women have overcome many hardships at such a young and innocent age. Although many people will argue that is a customary tradition in their culture for a girl to be wed young, it does not make it appropriate or morally acceptable. Many people in their cultures disagreed with the way the girls disobeyed their father’s wishes by running away, they saw them as nothing but a disgrace and gave them no pity. These people only disagreed with the girl’s actions because they believe that because they are female they have no right to choose their destiny. Nevertheless Nujood Ali and Waris Dirie have come out victorious at the end of their journeys and have become an inspiration to many girls going through the same hardships that they went
