He isn’t the mayor of Blythe, he’s not on City Council and he doesn’t do anything for recognition, but he does everything outside of a City title, to give back and better his community.
His name is Steve Hohn, the manager of Steve’s Smoke Shop, located at 217 W. Hobsonway.
Managing a place of business Sunday through Saturday, when it comes to the local business manager, on Fridays, his first priority is finding a way to do more than what he did the day before. Dedicating his time and money for the past nine months, Hohn hosts a barbecue every Friday, along the sidewalk in front of his Smoke Shop, feeding the homeless and anyone in the mood for a grilled hotdog or smoked sausage. You know so many people here are struggling to get by and I think it’s wrong to take and take and never give back.” Instilling within his son the core values of spreading hope and cherishing the things that he has, Steve passed down the responsibility of manning the grill and passing out hot dogs to son Ryan Hohn and friends, Elias Vaca and Ivan Ramirez.
“My son is 18 years old and it teaches him responsibility and it teaches him to find ways to do what can to help people, Hohn said.
“I don’t want him walking around thinking everybody is the same or having him not wanting to help anybody in this world, because just like I always tell him, ‘Do what you can, because there’s always someone out there, who has it worse off than you. He knows there are people who don’t have money, and even the people who have money, still help them, because who cares?” Hoping that others would find it in their hearts to give back to the people of Blythe or pay it forward without looking for anything in return, Hohn said, “We want people to come out and be a part of the community and learn how to give back.
