Congressman alike across the entire nation are widely unknown to many. Iowa’s members in the Legislative branch are a mystery to many. This paper serves the purpose to shed light on the people who represent Iowa on our behalf and their duties. Each state has two senators. Iowa’s senators are Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst. Both of Iowa’s senators are of the Republican party, similar to all but one of our house members. Iowa has four members in the U.S House of Representatives, each member represents one of the four districts in Iowa. My district representative is Steve King(Iowa). King is a firm opposer of same sex marriage and supports the traditional idea of a man and woman to be married. He showed this in his vote to oppose same sex marriage all the way back in July of 2006, King even went so far as to propose amending the constitution to define traditional marriage. As for education King has done quite a bit to support state rights for education. King supported the bill to guarantee parents’ rights to educate kids, as well as denounce the common core. His hope to rid of common core education and give the right to the state to decide on how to teach kids is a step in the right direction for education. I believe he is a hardworking man and is trying to support the agriculture business fair well. Where Steve king Falters is his inability to provide a pathway for immigrants to help the economy. He strongly disapproves, and will not even consider, a path to citizenship. I hope through this paper it provides recognition of the man that is representing our district and speaking on our behalf. Too many people are unaware of the issues our representatives are addressing and it is time to recognize and play a part in what our state will become.
