Steven Spielberg Draft 1 The silver screen is a canvas of imagination that people, such as Steven Spielberg, can turn it into the viewer’s greatest dreams, joys, and fears. From Jaws in 1975 to Jurassic World, coming in 2015, Steven Spielberg takes the world of film to the next level. He can manipulate and pare the canvas of the silver screen in ways thought not humanly possible. In 1982, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial is about the friendship that is literally out of this world. With a production budget of ten million, this production was a lot like Close Encounters with The Third Kind (McBride 324). Spielberg explains E.T. as “a very personal story…about the divorce of my parents, [and] how I felt when my parents broke up” (McBride 327). This helps explain the amount of emotion between ET and ten year old Elliot that touched the hearts of his cast and crew, as well as the heart of millions of viewers. This film had a budget of $750,000,000 and was considered a low budget film (McBride 231). This is a film about three men who sail to see in search of a shark that has been terrorizing the nearby town with numerous attacks. This movie was such a big success that is sprung a long line of sequels that never really were as good as the original. His first major series was the Indiana Jones Series. In the second film, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, a twelve-year-old kid, aka “Shortstop,” helps “Indi,” Harrison Ford, save a village of kids from the enslavement by very evil natives (McBride 353). This movie alone brought in a whopping 174 million dollars because of the series’ popularity around the world and the amount of thrill and adventure throughout the flick. The series all together brought in a total of $1.9 billion dollars. This four movie series brought all the adventure of James Bond but also taught us some history within the mix. The next major series he did is the Jurassic Park Series. The series contains three movies with a fourth coming early 2015. He finished a book called Jurassic Park and immediately decided to take the thrilled to the silver screen (McBride 417). This takes the dinosaurs from our childhood and puts them right in front of us on a massive screen. Making over $205 million from this movie, this will be Steven’s top grossing film in the 20th Century (McBride 424).
