The book The Story of Stevie Wonder would be classified as a biography, and not a memoir for a couple of reasons. A main reason that the two stories are different is, a biography is about the person’s entire life. While a memoir is about a specific part of the person’s life. Another reason the two stories are different, is who the story is written by. The author of a memoir is who the book is about, but a biography is written about someone by someone else. Lastly, a biography is written in chronological order, but a memoir doesn’t have to be in the exact order. The book starts out explaining how Stevie’s life all began. It tells you how to what his childhood was like, living with two brothers and dealing with being different from everyone else. It ends with his plans when he is all done with music. Stevie plans on helping the less fortunate kids in Africa, who are dealing with a cornia eating fly. If this was a memoir it would of focus more on a specific period in Stevie’s life. It could be on Stevie’s life after his first hit song Fingertips. It could also be about what it was like when he made one million dollars as a thirteen year, but only had a two dollar and fiftycent allowance. …show more content…

A biography has to be written by someone other than who the book is about. James Haskins wrote The Story of Stevie Wonder and the book is not called “The Story of James Haskins” if that was the title of the book it would have to be about James Haskins not Stevie. If Stevie wrote The Story of Stevie Wonder it would be considered an autobiography, which is also different from the memoir.
