“The Story Of An Hour” by Kate Chopin and “A Rose For Emily” by William Faulkner share some alikeness regarding the characters,plot and difference in dealing with sorrow, willingness to change “The Story Of An Hour” written by Kate Chopin this short story is about the life of a railroad worker’s wife named Louise Mallard. She has a heart condition and learned about the her husband’s death. She spends most of the story thinking about all the years she spend with her husband. Ultimately she dies of a heart attack seeing her husband alive. The second story in contrast is “A Rose For Emily” by William Faulkner is a story with third party narration, of a woman named Emily Grierson. Emily is stressed because of of the pressure from her father and community interests in her life. She falls in love with Homer Barron, whom she expected to be married with some day. Later when she passes ;the townspeople and reader find out that Emily had poisoned Homer Barron and kept him in her bed for over 10 years. …show more content…

where women were treated not equally as men . in this era women were controlled by the dominant male in their family like our protagonist Emily Grierson was controlled by her father, who thought all men weren't good enough for his daughter as a result Emily was all alone when her father died and Louise Mallard controlled by her husband.
