One of my favorite quotes by Napoleon Hill portrays “Strength and Growth only come through continuous effort and struggle.” In Of Mice And Men, Lennie and George, two ranch workers went through the struggles most Ranchers had such as having not having family, friends or a future. The only thing that made them different from the rest of the workers is they knew they had each other to depend on, which most of the ranchers found odd, but also craved that type of companionship as well. The quote by Napoleon Hill relates to my topic because despite the struggles that Lennie put both him and George through, George still had courage to be there for Lennie, even when others disagreed. George and Lennie from the very beginning had a dream to own their own Ranch with land. On occasions George and Lennie would talk passionately about their dream to encourage and empower them both to work harder for it. “It’d be our own, an nobody could can us. If we don’t like a guy, we can say, “Get the hell out’... An’ if a fren’ come along, why we’d have an extra bunk, an we’d say, “why don’t you spend the night.” (Steinbeck 58). Having courage to work hard for a goal or a dream builds strength through all the difficulties trying to get there. Some of those struggles were expressed by George; “Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don’t belong no place. They come to to a ranch an’ work up a stake and then they go into town and blow their stake, and the first thing you know they’re pounding their tail on some other ranch.” (Steinbeck 13). When working hard for a goal, it’s really hard to not blow your stake because most of the ranchers had nothing else to look forward to in the future. Even though George and Lennie didn’t have anyone or anything in their life, they had each other, and the courage to still fight for their dreams which builds the most powerful strength anybody could
