Teaching is its own art form with teachers using various ideas and methods on how to actively engaged the class and present material to the class to try and help prepare them for what some would call “real life”. With all the different teaching methods and ideas, each person has a unique way of teaching a class with some methods and ideas that connected with the class and others that fail. With music educators, these methods and ideas are very crucial to help students understand exactly what the conductor wants, and how the certain music is suppose to sound like. As stated previously some of my main weaknesses are having examples to connect students with musical ideas in a way that would make sense to them, some overall confidence issues with standing up in front of a class, and stamina to be able to teach for an extended period of time. But even though I have weaknesses I also have strengths when it comes to teaching. Some strength of mine would be that I am very passionate about music and the fine arts, I am a very dedicated person when it comes to the preparation of music and trying my best to make it a rewarding journey rather than learning notes on a page, and finally, I have a caring personality, which I feel really shines through when I can tell that a student or person is distraught. For not having examples to relate musical ideas to students, to improve on that is as simple as to intently listen to a conductor when they are trying to explain a musical idea and try my best to remember and write down what they said and how it makes sense. As for confidence, I really just have to try my best and get on hand experience with other students, so the idea of teaching someone or a group of others an idea just because natural. Finally, the stamina issue has sort of the same solution with the confidence issue, so I can find ways to not strain myself as much when I am teaching and also starting physical exercise to work towards building up stamina so I can last full days, weeks, and months teaching almost every day. For my strengths, for passion, just continue to love music and explore more genres and attend more concerts to be able to hear fantastic music from all around! Dedication also has a similar solution as passion, go out and hear more concerts and groups to understand how what they did worked and how I can try to create my own unique sound that sounds pristine. Also for dedication is to study, research different styles and techniques of music and attend workshops that address this, so I can expand my understanding of music.
