In this essay I will be discussing the strengths and weaknesses of sense perception as a way of knowing and how they come to play a part in daily lives. We as human beings rely on all our four ways of knowing to help us make decisions that influence almost everything we know, do and say. These four ways of knowing are: sense perception, language, emotion and reason; and as useful and vital these four ways of knowing are to us they do on the other hand have weaknesses. Sense perception is defined as being “understanding gained through the use of one the senses such as sight, taste, touch or hearing. An example of sense perception is someone knowing what song is playing on the radio after hearing it”. Our five senses are something that we tend to trust and depend on given that they are how we view and understand the world. It is through our five senses that we experience the world as it is and it´s also those five senses that define our opinions and shape who we are as unique individuals. Our body and our senses help protect us and keep us aware of danger even in an almost subconscious manner. For example, if a person were to touch a hot plate, their brain would process the information of the stimulus, which would be heat, in which then they would described that sensation as being hot or burning. This is a very basic yet extremely fundamental process that ties in with sense perception that allows for safety and basic understanding of our surroundings. One of the advantages of sense perception as a way of knowing is that it doesn't take much for us to be able to understand the world using our senses. Our senses are something that are part of us and something that almost all of us have, giving us some easy access into understanding the world around
