As reviewed in week 1, China’s main party is the Communist Party of China (CPC). The CPC engages in its activities within guidelines addressed by the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China and does not intend to surpass the Constitution and laws. The constitution in China contains many civil rights: worship, press, free speech, the right to own private property, and the right to trial. However, the country’s CPC has not followed this constitution but there has been very little done to ensure that the civil rights are enforced. Strict control and censorship is held over the citizens who have little to no power to protest. Citizen’s needs are often unheard by the government due to the lack of a civil society.
