In order for you the reader to better understand what information is trying to be portrayed it is important that you have a clear picture of all of the necessary pieces. To be able to fully understand the Impact on Student Learning Project you need to be aware my placement, the community, the school, my classroom, and who my students are as leaners.

My placement for my student teaching experience is at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Yankton, South Dakota. I am in third grade with Mrs. Sandy Vavra. There are sixteen students in my classroom. The school is part of the Sioux Falls Catholic Dioceses.

Yankton is located in the northern part of the United States and in the southeast part of South Dakota. The population of Yankton 14,552. …show more content…

From an ethnicity viewpoint 90.5% were not Hispanic or Latino and 3.4% were Hispanic or Latino. The community support for Sacred Heart comes from the two Catholic churches in town and the parishioners. The two churches would include St. Benedict’s and Scared Heart. The socio-economic level would include both parents working in various jobs including working at the medical clinic, the hospital, the Human Services Center, and etc.

Sacred Heart Elementary School is very friendly and welcoming to all. We had an assembly the first week of school to introduce the new students to the students from last year. This shows that welcoming people into their school community is very important. The design of the school is unique. Vavra’s third grade classroom the whiteboard and smartboard are at the front of the room. My desk and Mrs. Vavra’s are off in the corner. Around the perimeter of the room are bookshelves and countertops. The seating in the room is a bit different than a usual classroom it is flexible seating which means the students get to pick where they want to sit. The options for the students in Mrs. Vavra’s room include standing, stools, sitting on the floor, bungee chairs, comfy chairs, beanbag chairs, and sitting at the podium. All of the bulletin boards and posters in the classroom are centered on one theme which is Peanuts. The students made puzzle pieces which were used to make into one puzzle to represent that they are one team is hanging on the back of the door. This serves as a reminder to the students that there will be bumps along the way in third grade, but together they can get through them. The scheduling is as consistent as the specials allow it to be. The daily schedule is on the board each day for the students. There isn’t times on it just a list of subjects. Mrs. Vavra told her students on day one that she doesn’t have a long list of rules that they need to follow she only has one. That one rule is to respect others which we talking more in-depth about what the meant on the first day. If you aren’t following this rule Mrs. Vavra will ask you to go out in the hallway and think about how you can be more respectful next time. Mrs. Vavra doesn’t give the student
