Substance Dualism Concept

What is Mind? The topic of metaphysics is a crucial part of philosophy, as metaphysics endeavors to answer the question of what reality is (Stewart, Blocker, & Petrik, 2013). It attempts to answer whether an object is real based on its existence as an object or whether an object is real based on its properties, and it also tries to answer the mind-body problem (Stewart et al., 2013). Many modern philosophers have contemplated whether the human body is simply made of physical matter or whether there is some nonphysical component to the body. The terminology people use to separate the concepts of the physical objects and the immaterial mind is only one example of this (Stewart et al., 2013). If the mind and body are both physical material and are the same, such as what the materialists believe, then a person could never describe his intelligence, beauty, or temperament (Stewart et al., 2013). For instance, it is logical to state that a person’s mind is intelligent, but it makes little sense to say that his body is intelligent. Additionally, a person could logically describe his body as beautiful, but the mind cannot be described as such. This unique terminology and use of descriptions in human language (or identity thesis) is another argument for substance dualism, as it depicts how the human mind and body cannot be the same substance (Stewart et al., 2013). Furthermore, people tend to speak of their bodies in terms of possession, which could point to the mind and brain being separate (Stewart, et al.,
