The Houston Independent School District (ISD) Nutrition service balances nutrition with student acceptance to ensure health benefits. The sugar content of school breakfasts in the Houston Independent School District is a new topic of concern for Houston-area parents, and this article is based on those concerns. The sugar content of the breakfast options concerned the parents. There is a need to reduce the sugar content of the school breakfast provided by the ISD to ensure that the high sugar content does not negatively impact dietary and health outcomes. Under the 2010 Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act (HHFKA), the USDA sets nutrition standards and meal patterns for school breakfast and lunch.
