1. Introduction
William Shakespeare's tragedy “Othello”, written between 1601 and 1604, deals with a dark-skinned general in the Venetian Army who has eloped with the Venetian senator's daughter, Desdemona. Her father, outrageous because of his daughter marrying a black man, despises her.
The play is set in the late 16th century, during the war between Venice and Cyprus, where Othello is stationed to fight the Turks. Meanwhile, Iago, an evil villain, plans his revenge on Othello. The “Moor” has promoted Cassio, another soldier, instead of him. Moreover, Iago suspects Othello of having an affair with his wife, Emilia. Being manipulated by the man he trusted in, Othello ultimately commits suicide.
