In the book Sula, there are many times that the main characters get betrayed even by the people they trust the most. The story shows you that you can't just trust anyone, even if you guys are super close they can still end up betraying you. One betrayal in the story that involved both the main characters was when BoyBoy left Eva, his wife, leaving her to take care of their three children alone. Even though BoyBoy left Eva with nothing, she made it work and the betrayals in this book made the story more interesting and more emotional. Not only this, another betrayal that happened was when Sula slept with Nel’s husband and when Sula sent her grandmother away to a nursing home. The fact that Nel knew Sula killed someone and still kept it a secret between them just for Sula to go sleep with her husband Jude was such a plot twist that no one expected it was going to happen. In the story it says “Oh, yes”. Good friends,” Sula said. “And you didn’t love me enough to leave him alone. To let him love me. You had to take him away.” “What do you mean, take him away? I didn’t kill him, I just fucked him. If we were such good friends, how come you couldn’t get over it?” (145) Nel was in disbelief they were so called “good friends” and yet her friend couldn't even leave her husband alone and Sula just expects Nel to get over it since they are friends. Once they were caught by Nel, Jude ends up leaving them and now Sula is known as dirty. Although this betrayal isn’t as big, it ends up happening later in the story, which is when Sula sends her grandmother to a nursing home. Sula sending her grandmother to a nursing home shows us how someone can change from when they are little to when they are grown, Sula hasn't stepped foot in Medallion in 10 years when that's where she's
