Abstract
Target Corporation began its rise to a major corporation and household name in May of 1962. Starting with their first store in Roseville Minnesota, Target has seen outstanding growth in the past six decades with 1,948 locations in all fifty states, employing over 400,000 team members. Technological control is “the implementation of various forms of organizational technology to control worker productivity”(Mumby 2019, p. 15), and it helps organizations like Target to track and measure worker output. While it can improve some aspects of production, it can harm or complicate other aspects. Technological controls can take the workers autonomy over their rate of production and give it almost completely to management. This can severely limit worker creativity, and instead of doing meaningful worth they become another tool that management uses to meet their goals. Target’s corporate website has an abundance of articles that promote the steps they have made in this area. One specifically is this article I found where the Target Corporation will observe Juneteenth as an annual holiday within their organization. The article reads,
“In 2020, Target formally acknowledged Juneteenth – the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States — as an official annual company holiday. Target took this step as part of our commitment to advancing racial equity and social justice, giving our team space to celebrate and honor the day in their own way” (Target Corporate,
