In 1941, the bombing of Pearl Harbor began the second World War for the United States. This act started the conflict of thousands of American soldiers being killed or captured for years to come. Today it is called the most daring rescue mission of World War II, the saving over five hundred captured soldiers. The documentary American Experience, “Bataan Rescue" summarizes the surrendering, life in captivity, and the rescue that these men went through. It was only a few hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor that American soldiers stationed in the Philippines knew they could not win against the Japanese forces there.
In the article, “The Bernie Bomb”, the tones of abhorrence and antagonism shows affirmation in most of the article. The author’s, Kimberley Strassel, message she is conveying is that Bernie Sanders is not an acceptable President, not only that, but, the Strassel insults Sanders by saying that whoever donated to him should ask for a refund. The diction used relates to the tone of the passage, how Strassel phrases it is able to convey a very negative tone. For instance, Strassel calls Sanders a “lazy debater” who “happens to be stunningly unprepared” for the debate and how he “stumbled through all this with incoherent meditations.”

Carr believes that technology is taking over how people interact with each other.

I agree that entertainment has the capacity to ruin society. Entertainment is everywhere, and there are millions of people around the world every day who are influenced by entertainment. There are commercials and shows on TV, lots of music, radio commercials, comedians and actors, and video games, as well as many more forms of entertainment that reach millions of people daily. Wherever you look, there are bound to be people immersed in some form on entertainment, whether that be games on their cell phone, radio, or music. Since we are so reliant on entertainment to distract and captivate us, it is a reasonable statement to say that entertainment could run, and possibly ruin, society.
In a satirical music video titled “Welcome to Hell,” the female members of the Saturday Night Live cast welcomed men to the world of sexism. Saturday Night Live is produced in New York City, with the actors doubling as writers for each script, including this video. The video was inspired by the recent sexual harassment allegations in Hollywood, starting with Harvey Weinstein. The video brought to light that although the accusations are new, sexual harassment is not. Throughout the video, the women portray multiple historical instances of sexism, such as the Salem Witch Trials and Rosie the Riveter.
The United States invasion of Iraq in 2003 was dubbed Operation Iraqi Freedom by US Forces, but it seemed like freedom was the last thing on their minds. Abu Ghraib prison was an occupied Iraqi prison where the US Army held mass incarcerations and sponsored inmate torture. 2007 marked the year that a documentary titled “Ghosts of Abu Ghraib” was produced by HBO and directed by Rory Kennedy. This documentary showed the abuses and injustices inured to the Iraqi prisoners at the hands of the United States Soldiers. Although the guards at Abu Ghraib Prison Complex had personal reservations against the treatment of the prisoners, they were manipulated into authoritarianism by their overzealous obedience.
Nowadays debris is an integral part of humanity life. Mankind thinks about how to make the product easier and cheaper to use, but nobody cares what happens with waste after it was used. We contaminate the environment with every decade increasingly: muddied air and water, global warming are an output of human life. The worst thing is that from such attitude other living beings are dying. Millions of animals and birds cannot withstand such environmental changes; their populations become smaller and, eventually, disappear altogether from the face of the earth.
The Foundation of stereotypes When you pick a documentary, what’s the first thing you notice: color, the image and the bold letters on the cover? They are usually no more than three words just burning on the cover. But we never consider from where the author or authors came up with them, or what purpose do they hold. In the documentary Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People, the title holds a significant meaning. It represents the movement of how Hollywood has portrayed Arabs through the decades.
Imagine living in a world where the air is polluted and most people are afraid to step outside their front door, in the near future, this may be reality for Americans.
