Whale, Whale, Whale, what do we have here? Are Orcas being tortured? Let's find out! I think Sea World should eliminate the orca breeding program. I think Sea World should eliminate the orca breeding program because it causes Orcas to live shorter lives and hurt themselves. Text from the article, “8 Reasons Orcas Don't Belong At Seaworld” that supports my claim is “Orcas in the wild have an average life expectancy of 30 to 50 years—their estimated maximum lifespan is 60 to 70 years for males and 80 to over 100 for females. The average age of death for orcas who have died at SeaWorld is 13 years old.” And “Orcas in captivity gnaw at iron bars and concrete from stress, anxiety, and boredom, sometimes breaking their teeth and resulting in painful …show more content…

Text from the article “8 Reasons Orcas Don't Belong At Seaworld” that supports my claim is “Orcas are highly social animals who live in stable social groups ranging from two to 15 individuals. In some populations, children stay with their mothers for life. In captivity, orcas are forced to live with orcas from other family units who speak a completely different language than they do and are constantly moved between facilities for breeding and to perform.” and “The resulting anxiety and tension cause fights between orcas. In the wild, orcas have strong social bonds that may last for life, their social rules prohibit serious violence against each other, and when fights do occur, they can find space to flee. In captivity, there’s nowhere for them to go, which leads to injuries and death.” The text supports my claim because it shows that Orcas cannot live with their mothers in captivity and they might get in fights and hate other Orcas because they are not the same and don't speak the same language. However, in the wild, Orcas stay and live with their mothers and don't get in many fights. Also, the text supports my claim because it shows that Seaworld is not treating Orcas right and having too many orcas in the same area which results in fights and anxiety which increase the chance of orcas murdering each other and they want to find …show more content…

I think we should keep Orcas in Seaworld because we are unable to do scientific research on Orcas in the wild. Text from the article “Marine scientists are upset that SeaWorld decided to stop breeding orcas” supports my claim is “Researchers outside SeaWorld argue they need its facilities and 1,500 employees in animal care to answer questions about wild orca behavior.” This supports my claim because it’s hard to capture and study a wild orca so we know more about them and so we can see what illnesses and toxins they can get and produce as well as what we can help with or help stop the spread
