I am a new immigrant to this country, U.S, and when I first arrived here in the U.S I felt that I looked different, I even felt that it is really hard for me to fit into this new culture. However, I learned to adapt and view everybody the same, even if we all have different cultures, skin tones, and languages. Moreover, I used to take the American History course back when I first arrived here in the U.S; I learned that the African slave was a major event of the United States history that caused problems of racism and discrimination in the United States. Even though the civil right of minority groups in the America has improved over this last 50 years, we still encounter a lot of problems about the social inequality in our society. Based on my own opinion, the most important solution that can help to reduce the racism in this country is to encourage the classroom to open discussion about social equality and education regarding the consequences of stereotypes and prejudice. However, Immigration is always a hot topic for the U.S, and racism is still around. We begin to learn about the act of stereotyping and prejudicing of most Americans that have been lived in this nation for hundred years. The beginning of the story, the taxi driver used his judgment ability to assume Ronald Takaki based on his face, skin tone, and culture. Moreover, by those judgments went on in his mind, he created many assumptions regarding author’s national origin and social standard. I always negotiate in my mind that why people cannot live peacefully in this world, and why people like to judge on one another based on their physical appearances. I have noticed that the problem of racial inequality has improved a lot if we compare it to the last 50 years ago, and the reason is because we have increased in the percentage of educated people.
