Work competition is not a new concept in today’s work. Just like Rhona and Mim, many individuals in the work setting undermine each other just to have that upper hand in their place of work.
Throughout all Shange’s book “For colored girls who have considered suicide/When the rainbow is enuf”, She works to give each woman a background whether it is a good or bad one, and then she uses the women’s backgrounds to help develop a story of how they found their courage to create a voice for themselves. The beginning of the poem, “Sorry” is interesting because it does not immediately start out with the lady in blue taking about how she was done with hear people say that they were sorry, it starts out with the other women in the book giving examples of how people have said that they were sorry in the past. In the poem it the lady in red says,” ‘now I know that ya know I love ya, but I ain’t ever gonna love ya like ya want me to love ya, I’m sorry’”.
Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick is a thrilling story about a boy named, well, Leonard Peacock. The book takes place on Leonard's 18th birthday in which he decides to go through with his plan to kill his former best friend, Asher Beal and himself. Man vs self conflict in this book is very clear because throughout the book Leonard is almost fighting with himself on whether or not he really wants to go through with killing Asher and himself. The man vs society conflict in this story is also quite noticeable because Leonard gets bullied by many people so he is constantly going against society. There is also man vs man conflict in this book from Leonard getting bullied by Asher to Leonard and his mother never seeing eye to eye, both
In The Clouds, by Aristophanes, and The Apology by Plato, Socrates is illustrated in distinctive ways. In The Clouds, Aristophanes tries to expose Socrates and his followers, the Sophists. In his play, Aristophanes shows that Socrates is contaminating the young men of Athens, and he uses mockery to magnify a lot of the lessons delivered by Socrates. Plato, who was a devoted advocate of Socrates, portrayed his advisor in a positive way. Even though majority of The Apology is literally a speech narrated by Socrates, we can guess that Plato was intrigued by the story enough to twist it in a way that would highlight Socrates, and the picture was thoroughly diverse from that of Aristophanes.
Reading Response: The Apology Analysis “Why does Socrates believe himself to be innocent?” The Apology is a record of Socrates defense to his jurors who had charged him with impiety. A major part of his defense, is that the Oracle at Delphi proclaims him to be the wisest man alive. Later Socrates relays a second message of the Oracle that explains the reason that he is wise. “God only is wise... the wisdom of men is little or nothing”.
Kevin Rudd’s “sorry speech”, issued om the 13th of February 2008, was the first official apology from the Australian government taking responsibility for its past mistreatment of indigenous people during the mid-1800s and late 1970s. this essay will be focused on john Howards and Kevin Rudd’s opposing opinions on reconciliation. Howards called Rudd’s apology an “empty gesture” in 2022, 14 years after the apology was made. Kevin Rudd’s apology wasn’t empty gestured as it gave acknowledgement pf past governments policies and allowed for reconciliation.
Socrates was a greek philosopher who found himself in trouble with his fellow citizens and court for standing his grounds on his new found beliefs from his studies about philosophical virtue, justice, and truth. In “Apology” written by Plato, Socrates defended himself in trial, not with the goal of escaping the death sentence, but with the goal of doing the right thing and standing for his beliefs. With this mindset, Socrates had no intention of kissing up to the Athenians to save his life. Many will argue that Socrates’ speech was not very effective because he did not fight for his life, he just accepted the death sentence that he was punished with. In his speech he said, “But now it’s time to leave, time for me to die and for you to live.”

It talks about the trail of Socrates who is arrested on the charges corrupting the youth, not believing in the gods of the lord, and for being a Sophist. Socrates is not believed to have written any books; the apology was written by his student Plato who was at his trial. Unlike some of his ancient contemporaries, Socrates is fairly candid and unapologetic about his beliefs about death. Socrates, in Apology, utters the sentence “…those of us who believe death to be an evil are certainly mistaken”, shortly after being handed a death sentence by the the court (40c). He shows no fear, and is willing to die to preserve his philosophical beliefs. For Socrates, death is not something to be feared or hated. As a matter of fact, Socrates sees begging for mercy as a fate worse than death.
Plato's “The Apology of Socrates” is a speech Socrates makes at the trial in which he is charged with not recognizing the gods recognized by the state, inventing new idols, and corrupting the youth of Athens. Socrates' speech, however, is by no means an "apology" in our modern understanding of the word; the name of the dialogue derives from the Greek "apologia," which translates as a defense, or a speech made in defense of the convicted. Thus, in this reading, Socrates attempts to defend himself and his conduct; certainly not to apologize for it. For the most part, Socrates speaks in a very plain, conversational manner towards all his charges that Meletus and Athens has filed against him.
