So many things have changed with the advancement of technology including the ways that we meet people and find people to date. In the book Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari, he discusses how the dating world has changed as a result of technology as well as other things that have caused change. He also discusses how the dating world varies between the different cultures and even between the different areas within the United States. The main point is that the way people find someone that they want to be in a relationship has drastically changed in the last one hundred years
To begin to learn how the dating world has changed over time, Ansari and his partner for the book Eric Klinenburg interviewed some older people at a retirement community. He went on a trip to Tokyo to look into the decline in the romantic scene in Japan. He found that many men claimed to be too busy with their careers to try and find a woman to date. There are also many stigmas in the Japanese culture that make it harder for people to meet romantic partners. For example, a man is considered “sleazy” if he tries to pick up a woman at a bar. The result of the lack of young people forming relationships is substantial in Japan because Japan’s birthrate is so low that it is predicted that the Japanese population will decrease by thirty million if the pattern does not change. The situation is so bad the government is giving parents money to aid in the costs of raising a child. It is surprising that an industrialized city similar to New York City would have such a different dating scene. In big cities in the United States, online dating is prevalent, but in Tokyo, online dating is not nearly as common. The citizens of Japan seem to be too busy to make an effort to build
