The story of Baxie Randall and the Blue Raiders was written by Carl G. Hodges and is about a lost boy riding with the army to get his horse back. The story starts off very grimly, because in the beginning Baxie and his father (Jedediah Randall) were robbed and his father ended up getting shot and eventually died. Baxie tried to rush his dad to La Grange, Tennessee. That was the only place where he could get help. His dad ended up dying and he buried him after some soldiers tried to go get them some help. The soldiers to him to their camp where Baxie would spend the night and that’s how this adventurous started. Baxter Randall, also known as Baxie grew up in the southern state of Tennessee during the Civil War. He’s trying to get his horse back that was stolen from him by a man named Colonel Black, so he rides with the army because both of his parents have died and he has nowhere else to go. He encounters ambushes, hunger, and pain on this journey to get his horse. To him it is more than a horse. One crazy thing that happened is when he almost gets shot trying to cross an enemy guarded bridge. He was looking at an enemy dead set on him, and right before the ambusher could pull the trigger his horse got startled, tripped, and fell. The main character Baxie, starts off as a warm, loving, person-but a piece of his personality went when his father died. He lost most of his innocence and his care, it took tough love for Him to get back to who he was. The only things that kept him going was the Colonels that encouraged him every second, and his fight to keep looking for his lost
