Truong was Vietnamese at heart, growing up in Saigon, but he studied in Paris for a time where he met and learned from the future leader Ho Chi Minh. Truong was able to learn from Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary ideas and gain a great political perspective of the conflicts arising in Vietnam during the war. His autobiography shows the readers the perspective of the average Vietnamese citizen (especially those involved with the NLF) and the attitudes towards war with the United States. In the book, Truong exclaims that although many people may say the Americans never lost on the battlefield in Vietnam — it is irrelevant.
Amadou Hampaté Bâ is extremely detailed throughout the book, The Fortunes of Wangrin, in explaining the colonial world in West African societies. He provides multiple examples in this work of fiction that precisely describe the factual aspects of African colonialism that we have discussed in class. I will point out a few of the examples that Bâ uses such as: limitations colonial governments set on Africans, the Métis relationships within colonies, and issues that arose, not only between Europeans and Africans, but within the native African communities as well. I will then point out certain details from the book that do not perfectly reflect the components of colonialism that we have studied in lecture.

Zheng He’s voyages have been a constant source of controversy in the historical world because of the differing opinions on whether they should be celebrated or not. In July of 1405, Zheng He was given a task to lead a fleet of ships for exploration. This task was assigned to him by Emperor Yongle of China’s Ming Dynasty. Zheng He went on seven separate voyages over the next twenty eight years through the Indian and Pacific Oceans with the largest fleet of wooden ships in history. He navigated his massive fleet from Nanjing along the Chinese coast and through these oceans to explore new lands and bring prosperity to China.
Leading up to her suicide she continues her unruly antics against the Weylins including: talking back, running away, refusing to eat, and looking through Rufus’s belongings. She attempts to run away numerous times and is always caught. The first time she runs away Isaac is sold, her soul is broken, and it takes her a long time to recover. After he’s sold she is less content with her life on the plantation and lashes out at Dana and others. Dana spends lots of time with Alice and grows to understand Alice’s emotions towards Rufus, “She forgave him nothing, forgot nothing, hated him as deeply as she had loved Isaac (180).”
The Emperor should take a militaristic approach with Xiongnu because it is very costly to keep the tribute system going and our tributes may empower them, the Han should attack while they are still bigger than the Xiongnu, the Xiongnu also already proved themselves untrustworthy. As chief foreign policy adviser to the illustrious Emperor of the Middle Kingdom, I humbly recommend that the Emperor should instead take a militaristic approach because it will be very costly to continue sending tributes every year, if continued with diplomatic approach the Xiongnu could grow bigger than us and take over. For the past 50 years I have been keeping track of the price for the tributes we send to the Xiongnu, the cost rises every couple of years, we should have stopped sending tributes after they invaded us in 166 BCE, we never know when the Xiongnu will stop wanting our tributes. The cost of sending tributes to the Xiongnu rises every couple of years.

The United States annexed the Hawaiian Islands and Puerto Rico to gain their resources. They also built the Panama Canal and used it as a source of income for the US. Russia expanded into the Asia through Persia, the Caucasus regions, the nomads of Central Asia, and many areas of the Middle East.
The causes and effects of the decline and fall of Han China during the classical era had similarities and differences when compared to the political, economic, and social causes and effects of the decline and fall of Rome during the Classical era. First of all, the political causes of China’s decline and fall centered mostly around corrupt government officials. Corrupt officials would not pay taxes which upset the peasants and in turn caused political unrest among the Chinese people. Similarly, Roman emperor Caligula didn’t care about the well-being of the Roman Empire and instead preferred spending his time partying and having orgies which bankrupted Rome and led to a raise in taxes. As a result of raised taxes political unrest began to spread throughout Rome.

The period of terror and destruction occurred in Nanjing is undoubtedly among the worst in the history of modern warfare. This tremendous episode remained largely unknown or vaguely known for so long in particular in the Western countries and only in the 1990s exploded with such force, generating controversial debate and emotions. No one could fathom the overall extent of the terror.
