Chapter Three Summary Slater introduces chapter three with telling us that David Rosenhan was greatly ill towards the end of his life. Slater later tells us that Rosenhan and eight of his friends fake they’re way into different mental hospitals just by saying “I’m hearing things”. In fact, Slater wanted to see how the psychiatrist can see the sane from insane. Later, Robert Spitzer gave Rosenhan rude criticism about his experiment.
Timothy Pachirtat went undercover as a worker in an industrial slaughterhouse in Omaha, Nebraska for five months to discover how the power of concealment plays a role in how the meat we consume is processed. Pachirtat worked in three different positions during his time at the slaughterhouse. The first was in the cooler as a liver hanger, the next was pushing the live cattle into the knocking box, which begins the cow’s gruesome journey on the line, and finally he made his way to a quality control worker. Each job is a part of the 121 jobs that make up the production line. The book, Every Twelve Seconds: Industrialized Slaughter and the Politics of Sight, gives us an insight in to what goes on behind the closed doors of a slaughterhouse.
In the story Eleven by Sandra Cisneros I can make inference that Mrs. Price is a determined teacher. In paragraph 11 the author states” of course it's yours” Mrs. price says. “ I remember you wearing it.” Because she’s older and the teacher, she’s right and I’m not.
Victor Rios begins chapter six by describing the way the Latino boys he studied used masculinity as a rehabilitative tool. He describes how the boys are constantly “questioning” each other’s manhood as a way of proving their own masculinity. “The boys’ social relations with one another and with community members were saturated with expressions and discourses of manhood” (pg.125). Rios continues to describe the affects criminalization and its gendered practices has influenced these young boy’s mentality of what it means to be masculine. In chapter six, the author explains that although the boys had easy access to weapons, they rarely used them because of their clear understanding the consequences associated with such violence.

In the documentary 13th by director Ava DuVernay, a racial stigma is investigated regarding the skin colors of those being incarcerated in the U.S. prison systems. Some questions being introduced in 13th leave us intrigued and those relate to the presidents at the time handling every situation differently. Those questions and many more will be answered along with a critique of the handling by those in power regarding incarceration. Many symbols with meaning are introduced in 13th, such as the whites power over the media, their exaggeration of the release of Birth of a Nation and the presidency itself. The documentary goes in-depth into the incarceration of many blacks, and it does that with the questions it asks.
In the documentary “13th” directed by Ava Duvernay, focuses mainly on a recurring issue in society since the mid-1800’s. The documentary takes both sides and depicts the concerns and problems that many inmates face day to day. “13th” asks the question if African-Americans were actually ever truly “free” in this country. African Americans are considered free under their born rights but what “free” meant to myself through this film is, will they ever be treated equally compared to the rest of society. The opening minutes of the film started with a statistic that read, “One out of four African-American males will serve prison time at one point or another in their lives”.
The documentary 13th was released on October 7, 2016 and it triggered a worldwide shock. As a documentary, it was adept enough to address several ongoing issues, especially regarding the maltreatment of African Americans, but the documentary was shaped around the theme that African Americans were never free, and continue to fight for that freedom. The content within the documentary varied from earlier times where slavery, segregation and, Jim Crow laws existed to the more implicit manner of racism that is presented through the massive imprisonment of African Americans, and unjustified use of the criminal justice system against them. The film 13th is a documentary that explains how the prison systems are another form of slavery and is built to effect colored individuals and colored communities. The film identifies and explained a loop hole in the 13th amendment, which banned slavery. The loop in the amendment is that slavery and involuntary servitude is illegal unless a person is convicted of a crime. This clause in the amendment led to the first prison boom in America and mass incarceration. This film opened my eyes to underlying aspects of things that I have had previous knowledge about.
When working in the science fields there are many obstacles a person of faith may face. The biggest of these is the controversy over the concept of evolution and how the world came into being. Atheists and evolutionists are always trying to find ways to disprove God with science. However, after spending several years learning about how nature and chemicals work together to form our world it is hard for me to imagine that all of it came into existence without a creator.

People who already disagree with her would be immediately annoyed by that (0:00). Francesca then claims that those who call out racism, sexism, etc have been labeled as ‘too PC’(0:22), then later claims that calling someone too PC is a derailment of the conversation (0:58).

Up until this book was published, the majority of people looked at policy making from a top-down perspective. Since the 1980’s there has been increased debate over which approach is more effective (Gabel, 2012). Top-down implementation occurs when the government set policies and instructions on how to implement these policies. This makes it clear-cut because it is clear and based solely around agency objectives.
