Chapter Three Summary Slater introduces chapter three with telling us that David Rosenhan was greatly ill towards the end of his life. Slater later tells us that Rosenhan and eight of his friends fake they’re way into different mental hospitals just by saying “I’m hearing things”. In fact, Slater wanted to see how the psychiatrist can see the sane from insane. Later, Robert Spitzer gave Rosenhan rude criticism about his experiment.
Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America In the book “Ghettoside”, Jill Leovy talks about black-on-black crimes, which is a very relevant issue today in the United States, blacks are suffering from the lack of effective criminal justice system, the lack of cooperation from the witnesses, and how sickening it is for a family to lose someone because of homicide. An officer named John Skaggs, who is the main protagonist of the story. Leovy described John Skaggs as compassionate and relentless. Skaggs would be assigned to solve the murder case of Bryan Tenelle, a son of a homicide detective named Wallace Tenelle.
The next chapter was Carrie McCandless viewpoint on traveling to see where her older brother Christopher McCandless died. When Carrie was in the helicopter flying to the ominous bus, she could not believe that Chris had backpacked through such terrain and lived off the land for one hundred days. However, she always knew that if Chris put his mind to something, he would always achieve it. Finally, she saw the rundown school bus where her brother had died. She tried to be strong but failed, and wept.

Discovering Herself Deadly by Julie Chibbaro is about a young girl named Prudence, that follows her ambition to become a scientist, in New York, 1906. Prudence desires to become a scientist to stop the many illness and deaths she has seen. She gets a job as an assistant to a scientist and works to track down the Typhoid disease. It was being spread by a healthy carrier, Mary, who is too stubborn to believe she is spreading the disease. This job takes Prudence through many journeys like her first love and a terrifying court trial.
The novel, Dumplin’, was written by Julie Murphy, and tells a story of the success that can come from stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Dumplin’ was published as a Young Adult novel in 2015 by Harper Collins, and the title is a nickname for the main character, Willowdean Dickson, given by her former beauty queen mother. The novel takes place in Texas, and incorporates copious amounts of southern charm complete with Homecoming Mums, hair teased to high heaven, and southern accents of course. Willowdean, a self-proclaimed fat girl, has always been self-conscious of her extra pudge, especially when she meets Bo Larson, local hottie. The scene starts in the beginning of the book, Half Bad by Sally Green, when Nathan was a baby and his mother dies, then his father runs away. This fan fiction explains why/how Nathan's mother died and why Marcus ran away. Due to the negative effects caused from plastic it will always play a role in our environment. One hundred different chemicals have been created after the 1950s to the current day. New Yorkers have a nonchalant attitude toward moral behavior. Kate Kelly stresses that New York in general has as a distorted view of life’s problems. Kelley writes “New Yorkers are a provincial lot. They wear their city’s accomplishment like blue ribbons.
Throughout history people have done terrible things, such as the holocaust. Although there are many good people there was more people that stood around on the sidelines and did nothing to help the people getting affected by the Nazis. It is effedent that Holocaust survivor Fred Gross, and Terrible Things author Eve Bunting think this as well. They each teach this generation and the next when you know to help. But they use different styles, such as an allegory and a video.
“The wall divides the rich quarter, where the dead get buried in the earth, from the poor quarter, where the dead get stacked up in boxes.” (Pg. 180) To be rich you have to have a lot of money and possession, when you are poor you have little money, possession. The rich have a nice happy ending getting buried in the ground on the other hand the poor have to be stacked up in boxes in the air. Andy Mulligan shows the corruption when the police treat the rich better than the poor. Andy Mulligan also shows divide at the cemetery when the rich and poor bodies are separated, divide is also shown at the police station when the police question Raphael about his education.
Input That changes Everything “Teenage Wasteland” by Anne Taylor explains how external input can change a person’s attitude and how discipline is required during a child’s life As parents or guardians of any child, it is important to know that any amount of external input can alter a child’s life. Even from a young age of three years old to around the years of adolescence which is 13 to17. In the case of the story called “Teenage Wasteland” a boy named Donny is influenced by external input therefore changing his attitude and actions toward certain people.
The only woman in the world who will still cradle you in her arms even if you've stabbed her loving heart is your mother. The short story “Teenage Wasteland” by Anne Tyler is about guilt and reveals mother’s feelings towards her children. A loving mother will feel guilty for anything that happens to her children, and even for that how they feel. Mothers is the person who cares the most about her child. The story “Teenage Wasteland” tells about a common situation many families experience: a misunderstood child creates problems to his parents, not by fault, but because he feels unwanted.
D.W. Laist research claims that the polluted gyre affects 267 species worldwide: 86% of all sea turtle species, 44% of all seabird species, and 43% of all marine mammal species. Oesophagus and stomach contents of the endangered green sea turtle were examined from 38 representatives, 23 of which (60.5%) had swallowed debris, especially plastics. Scientists have documented 6 pounds of plastic for every pound of plankton in this area (“Plastic Ocean - The Great Pacific Garbage Patch”). Most of this plastic is eaten by sea birds and animals, including turtles and albatrosses. Sea turtles often eat plastic bags instead of jellies.
Everyday people buy plastic things from the cafeteria, from plastic containers, lids on cups, and things as small as straws, and like 50% of plastic used it will be thrown away after one use. However, do you ever stop and think, what happens to the plastic? If you’re thinking that it just magically goes away you 're wrong. It will most likely end up in a landfill somewhere or in the ocean, and as you may think that your actions do not impact the world, think again. Everyone in the world has at least used one piece of plastic, adding to the problem of plastic pollution and helping certifying the terrifying statisticc that acooording to the 2018 Earth day video, “by 2050 there will more plastic in the ocean than fish”, which almost is impossible to think of.
