In this interview, Neubauer asks Maya Angelou some questions about her writing style and technique. Angelou’s response is that she is inspired by other activists such as MLK, Malcolm X, Frederick Douglass and more. She says that she loved the writing style of Douglass’ slave narrative and slave narratives as a whole. Furthermore, she goes on about trying to create her own voice.
