City Colleges of Chicago and it 5 year turnaround plan for students is a plan to create a culture of student success. The issue was that students did not have a guide in order to make sure that they graduated in a timely matter. Students had too many credits that were not job focused. In 2013, City Colleges launched Reinvention7, or Reinvention to the seventh power, implying the multiplication of impact by embedding the taskforce reform model at each of the seven City Colleges. Reinvention7 puts in place the processes and procedures that allow students to make good choices, to complete …show more content…
The point of this strategy is to boost retention and in turn completion. The goal is to establish a culture of student success at City Colleges that will improve the lives of the students, their communities and cities. Each of these strategies are currently being carried out by the Reinvention7 Initiative and the creation of Student GPS (Guided Pathways to Success). In each of these areas, they describe a number of more tactical actions that are focused on a five year plan: Increasing relevance Increase the relevance of the work a student does at City Colleges: Ensure that the courses of study that students embark on will advance their goal of a meaningful career or transfer. Reducing time Reduce the time it takes for a student to get through City Colleges: Numerous studies show that the longer it takes to complete a degree, the less likely the chances of degree completion. We have, therefore, created a number of strategies to ensure students have a clear path through the institution, reducing the time to …show more content…

The Shelby County Schools District 10-year strategic plan, Destination 2025, is well in its 3rd year of existence. In year 2025, the SCS school district hope to be on target with 80% of seniors on track learning in a postsecondary environment, or entering the workforce; 90% of students earning high school diploma on time; and every student enrolling in a postsecondary college (SCS, 2015). To accomplish the 10-year strategic plan goals, schools’ administrators, faculty and staff have begun to establish collaborative groups whereas they are recommending, developing, and implementing small changes strengthening the gap in education. A comprehensive plan utilizing Rubin’s 14 Life Cycles, phases 6-14, is presented in this paper. A discussion of

The purpose of a liberal arts college is to educate students to be well rounded. It teaches them how to think and how to learn. Some may think a liberal arts school is pointless, however, it allows a whole new perspective that can benefit students by helping later on in life. This is why Marywood focuses on five core values to keep students on track and experienced. Marywood’s core values include service, excellence, empowerment, respect, and catholic identity.
Decreasing School Apathy in America Early mornings and long days that are filled with factoring polynomials, conjugating French verbs, analyzing historical documents, and studying for state-mandated tests. This required curriculum set by the state is what comprises many students’ average school day. This curriculum was developed with the goal of preparing all students for college; however, not all students plan on attending college. There are many jobs that are crucial for society to function that don’t require a college degree. For students who go straight into the workforce, this college-bound curriculum is nearly worthless.
I believe that TCU is a great fit for me because I am a student who believes in constantly improving myself and my skills. I am an actively involved student in my school community, and I love the fact that TCU offers such a wide variety of classes and organizations for students like me to take part in. I know that I personally thrive best among other students who not only push themselves, but encourage those around them to do so as well, and from meeting many TCU students, it is evident to me that TCU embodies that idea. After my time at TCU, I hope to discover a more independent, authentic version of myself.
The CDC serves all of the colleges within Loyola except for the Law and Business Schools, which due to the specializations of these fields requires a more dedicated, decentralized team (“About Us: Loyola University Chicago,” 2016). The CDC’s mission is to “educate, counsel, and empower Loyola students and alumni through their self-identity and career exploration process” (“About Us: Loyola University Chicago,” 2016, para. 2). However, the CDC also wants to “play an active role in facilitating contact and relations among students, alumni and employers…” (“About Us: Loyola University Chicago,” 2016, para. 1). There is a dichotomy between these statements, which calls upon the CDC to provide tools for students to take initiative, yet go beyond just giving students

This revision of the current course curriculum aligns with the UIC Student Success Initiative that calls for Colleges to address the retention rates and success of first to second year students. The outcomes of the course with current curriculum has been a successful one. A revised curriculum can only offer a higher success rate. In my experience as an academic advisor and instructor of the first semester seminar course, I believe that creating an atmosphere that fosters discussion and building relationships contributes to the success of the student.
During the beginning of my freshman year, I ran for 9th grade class president. Unfortunately for me, who had just began attending Linden-McKinley STEM 7-12 Academy, I was running against two other girls for president who were both students longer at Linden than I was and who knew more students. Despite having a slight disadvantage over my competitors, I continued to run for president because for the short month I was currently there, I had already made tons of new friends and acquaintances; I was already known around the school by many students and faculty members as a very happy, intelligent, smart, and enthusiastic person; but most importantly, many students and teachers who knew me really believed I had the capacity to bring change to the
It reflects the diversity of the disciplines that make up our college community, the myriad pedagogical philosophies we bring to the classroom each day, and the strengths of our education and training. Faculty are vested with the primary responsibility for the development of new courses and programs and the revision of existing courses and programs. The college’s course outlines and degree and certificate programs reflect our own academic mission and philosophy. Each outline and program has been rigorously reviewed to ensure it meets the standards set forth in the State Educational Code and as well as the standards for excellence that we have established as an educational institution. Central to the curriculum of the community college is the course outline of record.
Out of this low number that enroll in colleges, it is still observed that many fail to complete a degree. According to (Policy Report, 2013), only about 60% of students at four-year institutions complete a bachelor’s degree within 6 years of initially enrolling. The degree completion rates at two-year institutions are even worse.
A wide variety of skills are needed for success in life. A student goes through early childhood education, kindergarten, elementary, middle school, high school, trade school, college, graduate school, post-doctoral programs, certificate programs etc. The main focus is always to equip the student with knowledge and skills necessary to perform competently in their chosen area of endeavor. In our myopic focus, on a narrow skills set, we frequently overlook the real engine that drives success – character. The traditional focus of policymakers on academic achievement as a marker of people’s talents can cause them to miss the importance of non-cognitive skills, also called character skills.
1.0 WHAT IS COMMUNITY SERVICE Through community service, the community benefits, people are able to volunteer and give back to the community and make it a better place for everyone to be a part of. Services are offered and with the services a certain cause is worked upon. For example: • Planting trees in an area where may have been cut down, this is helping improve the environment but also helping the community at large. • Another example is volunteering at a local hospital where there aren’t many staff to run the hospital.
While enrolling in Converse College and taking student success seminar, I’ve learned about leadership, growth, and overall success. SSS encouraged personal growth and achievement, and to do so, I explored topics of education, social issues, leadership, responsibility, etc. Converse College has shaped my views toward many things, in regards to my goals and personal habits. Such transformations have aided toward creating my own path of success. Prior to attending college, I had prepared and worked hard for my position at Converse.
