Extended Writing Project- Caden Medel The main idea of this prompt is the life changing events Feng Ru, Melba Beals,and jackie robinson all went through and how they changed their country. These people came from the stories Never Had it Made, Father of Chinese Aviation, And Warriors Don't Cry.Feng ru created chinese aviation, Melba broke the color barrier for schools and jackie broke the color barrier for baseball The two things all of them did is change there lives and countries. The author that wrote these stories are Rebecca Maskell, Jackie Robinson, and Melba Beals. The crazy thing is Melba and Jackie had to go through racial slurs and people judging them for what they stand for. The biggest problem that challenge her was the racism that was in the environment. How she did that is by breaking the color barrier. Why it was such a big risk she had to go where people would not allow black people to go and were against segregated. For example she said “Step by Step we climbed upward where none of my people had ever before walked as a student.”(Beals) Another example is on the day she would go to the white high school Beals says she was greeted by “50 uniformed soldiers.” This show how she was in so much danger that she had to be protected by the army. Another example of racism is Jackie Robinson like Melba he broke the color barrier but instead of for schools he did it for baseball. The one thing that kept Jackie going all those years was his wife and Robinson stated that one kid that said “attaboy jackie.” and the one reason that attaboy jackie made him happy is because the kid was white and why it was specials was he was white.
