Grief is the process of reacting to a loss. It can be reacted physically by death, socially, divorce or occupational. In this case, grief is presented in the novel Brother, which is narrated by Micheal based on how him and his mother grieved over the sudden death of his Brother Francis who was snot ten years old at the age of 19 . In Brother, David Chariandy showed anger, losing touch with reality, and loneliness as the main effects of grief First, disconnection to reality can lead to anger, another symptom of grief.
They say that grief comes in five distinct stages; denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. In contrast, it’s often said that everyone handles grief differently. How can these two concepts of loss not only coexist, but be widely accepted? Maybe it’s time we shift our focus to the latter.

Adult Grief Group- 9 week closed group for adults ages 18+ages. The group goes through each step of grief along with a focus on specific struggles such as holidays, change of roles after death of l loved one and spiritual reflection. The groups are set up for 8 clients per clinician all groups(if more than one) for 20 min Psycho education then splints into the groups to provide time for each client to share and seek peer support. This is an extensive program designed to guide a individual through grief work to a place of hope beyond grief. I usually dedicate one week to a project that includes art Therapy for adults.

During a death of my Great Aunt, my family went through the stages of grief. I was close with her when I was younger, but I do not have many memories I remember with her so I did not experience much grief. On the other hand, my Great Uncle went through a lot of grief since she was his older sister.
I lost 8 of my loved ones in 2015. All of these deaths were unforeseen and left me emotionally damaged. I felt adrift, numb, and sad. I sensed my stomach drop and anticipated nothing was wrong but later perceived that this was the new normal. I had difficulty handling so many deaths.

Thus, grieving or mourning is a response to a significant loss such as death. Grief resulting from death is a normal human reaction and it sometimes overwhelming for some individuals to cope with due to the loss of someone to whom they were closely attachment. Grief is complicated the most common case is attributed to the death of a loved one, the loss of anyone important may cause reactions in the expression of our emotions. In the article the author adds that some effects may be “Memory gaps such as being unable to recall what you did yesterday, or not knowing how long it 's been since you last ate”(Haiken). Simple effects like the ones the author stated are caused by grief and remember those are just simple effects. Lots of people experience anxiety attacks and depression feeling life has no meaning anymore. Under those circumstances then start feeling detached from others, isolating yourself from social media, and behaving in ways that are totally not for you.
Sometime in your life, you will experience grief, grief causes many people to completely shut down and close off from the outside world, their friends may try to help them but sometimes it's just useless. I have experienced grief sometime in my life as something close to me has disappeared. During all of these situations, I shut down completely, I wouldn’t go to dinner and during school recesses, i would just think about what I could have done instead of doing this or that. I didn’t ever look for help as I wanted to keep this situation to myself, but whenever I got the question, What’s wrong? , I was tempted to say something, but I still kept shut.
These stages of grief were based on her studies of the feelings of patients facing terminal illness, but many people have generalized them to other types of negative life changes and losses, such as the death of a loved one or a break-up. LOSS, GRIEF AND HEALING As human beings, we suffer losses of many kinds and sizes in our life time. While some of these losses are small and do not hurt much, some are big and hurt deeply. Those that are accompanied by pains that are difficult to bear include the loss of a loved one through death or divorce, cheating or unfaithfulness in a trusted relationship or loss of good health when a diagnosis of a terminal illness is made. In all these instances of loss, pain and grief are experienced and an emotional wound is created which needs healing.
