Visualize the works, struggles, and thoughts of a middle school student. Now, add an average household of a middle school student. Compress that all into one book. A diary to be exact. That’s what this whole series is based on, a diary, Diary of a Wimpy Kid to be exact, a fairly popular book for children and teenagers. One part of Jeff Kinney’s writing style that I appreciate is how he set the mood and scene of a middle school and a middle school student, which makes it feel like the book sounds like an actual diary. The genre Jeff Kinney used was another type of writing style I appreciated. He specifically used realistic fiction because he probably wanted to express his own experience of middle school into a book, and the struggles he probably faced as well. One more writing style Kinney used was implementing pictures (sketches) of the main character and his family, because the picture helps the reader visualize and apply the drawing onto the text. The book, overall, uses a variety of writing styles & techniques, and therefore, it hooked me into reading it.
I would recommend this book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck because of numerous reasons, including its writing style.
