People are told to not judge a book by its cover. Many books can have a title that says one thing and then the actual book is about something completely different. Don’t Waste Your Life by John Piper is a book that can be judged by its cover because the book tells people how to not waste their life. There were many things in the book that I found to be meaningful.
The first point that I found to be meaningful was on page 31 when Piper wrote that “God created me—and you—to live with a single, all-embracing, all-transforming passion—namely, a passion to glorify God by enjoying and displaying his supreme excellence in all the spheres of life”. These four were the ones that stood out the most for me. There is a lot of good information in this book and it gives many ways to not waste your life. Throughout the book, Pipe is not trying to convince the reader to drop everything they are doing to go be a missionary (unless that is what God is calling you to do then do that). Piper encourages the reader to look at what they are doing in their life right now and figure out how they can change their ways to further God’s Kingdom. He gives multiple examples on how to show God through their work. Chapter 8 gives six examples of how to intentionally do this. This chapter is good because a lot of people will work in positions that aren’t focused on Christ and these examples explain how, even in this situation, Christ can be shown. What I took away from this book, is that to some people I could be the only one that shows Christ to them, and in other cases I could be the tenth person to do that. Whether I am the first or the tenth, I must show Christ through my actions and my words, so they can start thinking about what is different about me, which hopefully leads to conversations about my life and I can show them who Christ is and what he has done in
