In the short story, by Ethan Canin, “Star Food,” a boy named Dade is faced with struggles with his parents that have different points of views as his mother is an optimistic woman that wants Dade to keep dreaming. On the other hand, Dade’s father who is a realist wants Dade to carry the name and own Star Food after his father, he also wants Dade to work in store efficiently. They both wanted different things for his future, but everything changes when a poor, thieving woman enters their lives and steals from their store. The biggest question in “Star Food” is why Dade let the woman go. I believe Dade let the woman go because he felt like he wasn’t cut out for the life his father lived, and wanted to be more distinct than his strict father.

In the short story, “Star Food”, by Ethan Canin, the main character, Dade, did not feel like he was in control of his own life. Dade realized that catching the mysterious woman was not what he wanted, and that he wanted to start making his own decisions, so he let the woman go. Dade did not know what he wanted because his parents wanted two different, opposing lifestyles for him. His mother, thinking he was destined for limited fame, taught him to be a dreamer.
Mary Maxfield wrote her essay as a response to Michael Pollan’s essay on the western diet. Maxfield does not believe we should see food as what we can or cannot have, but to trust our instincts that our bodies will know what they need, which is contrary to Pollan’s article. Maxfield says that she does not believe that there is a correlation between weight, diet and health, which is also contradictory of Pollan. She believes that the body will naturally crave what it needs and you should let your body have what it wants because of this. Maxfield is targeting those interested in the real diet issue (possibly writers) and the Americans looking to make a difference in their diets.
Jonathan Safran Foer’s Let them Eat Dog is a comical persuasive essay about the arbitrary boundaries that society places over the consumption of animals. He successfully points out the almost silly rules certain cultures place over eating certain animals, using the example that Americans generally viewing “eating ‘man’s best friend’ … as taboo”. (Foer 332) There are many different cultures around the world, each of which have their own general beliefs and social norms. One of these norms is what people should or should not eat.
“The Moral Diet,” an essay by David Brooks, develops an explanation as to why people consider themselves to be “good people” even after cheating. Brooks explains how almost all humans will cheat just enough to satisfy their needs and enough to where they can still keep the overall record in positive territory. The peers I discussed this essay with agreed with my same thoughts, this concept is accurate and relatable. We agree with the perspective of Brooks, the cheating is an outcome of comfort with our own rationalizations. Brooks uses Dan Ariely’s book “The (Honest) Truth About Dishonesty” as a reference to his idea in the essay.
In the novel The Omnivore's Dilemma, author Micheal Pollan talks extensively about corn. He discusses the ecological, economical, and biological effects it has on humans and our environments. Most often, he brings up the shocking statistic that twenty-five percent of all supermarket items contain corn. Pollan steers away from taking a stance on this, but the strong voice in his writing shows the reader how he feels about corn's prevalence. He, rather obviously, thinks of it as a problem.
Industrial food chain is all around us. At Mcdonald's , Jewel Osco. It also cheaper than most other food chains. Michael Pollan writes about industrial food chain in his book Omnivore's Dilemma. The industrial food chain, by contrast, feeds the most Americans and sends its food on the farthest journey the McDonald's cheeseburger, which Pollan chooses as his representative industrial meal, is eaten in California,The best food chain to feed American families is industrial food chain because cheaper, easier to get from almost anywhere, it continues what farmers are already doing.
In the book The Omnivore’s Dilemma, Pollan shows us his view about the corn. Corn is a crop, which is highly using today, and there are many products including the ingredients of corn. However, Pollan’s point is trying to help people to notice what they are eating. In the views of economic, corn is an essential factor, which has reshaped American culture, and it turns people into an industrial eaters.
In the essay, “Escape from the Western Diet”, the author, Michael Pollan discuss about how the western diet is harmful for the people. He think that because western diet is responsible for many kinds diseases nowadays such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and etc. I agree with Michael pollan that western diet is very unhealthy for people and the reason behind it, is because of the food industry. Food industry is making more processed food and they are also using different kinds of nutritional theories to make new product which is very unhealthy to those people who mostly eats diet food. Medical industries is also responsible for this problem because they make new drug treatment to treat the diseases.
In the book, The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan, Pollan claims we should be more knowledgeable about what we consume as omnivores. As omnivores we have a variety of food, we can choose from, however, we don’t regularly make the best decisions for ourselves. Pollan argues this by showing us where our food really comes from and how we can find many unwanted extras. Pollan shows us that we’ve evolved as humans from how we used to eat to how we eat now. Pollan argues this by introducing us to all the food chains we value today, some much more than others.
Put Down That Cheeseburger! “What incentive is there for me to put down the cheeseburger?” asks Radley Balko in his article "What You Eat Is Your Business." He argues that, obesity does not belong in the public health crisis. He claims that obesity is not a problem that should be dealt at the cost of public money but should be dealt at a personal level by every individual.
In “What You Eat Is Your Business,” Radley Balko tackles the issue of who is responsible for fighting obesity. Balko argues that the controversy of obesity should make the individual consumers culpable for their own health and not the government (467). As health insurers refrain from increasing premiums for obese and overweight patients, there is a decrease in motivation to keep a healthy lifestyle (Balko 467). As a result, Balko claims these manipulations make the public accountable for everyone else 's health rather than their own (467). Balko continues to discuss the ways to fix the issue such as insurance companies penalizing consumers who make unhealthy food choices and rewarding good ones (468).

Chancey, who is in the department of Religious Study in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences at Southern Methodist University. In Dr. Mark A. Chancey’s preface, he has showed there is a phenomenon that Texas public schools tend to have an interest in bringing Bible back to the courses. Dr. Mark A. Chancey shows his concerns about claims about current Texas public schools which have Bible courses, he has questioned some aspects from academic purposes and respectfulness of religious freedom, and then he has recommend some possible solutions for those challenges.
Michael Pollan is the author of “Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual”. Throughout his career, Pollan has been investigating about the hazards that industrial foods pose to us, and how we can avoid them and replace them with a healthy diet. He believes that “The way we eats represents our most profound engagement with the natural world.” (Shetterly, Robert. “Michael Pollan.”
