Late Thursday afternoon, we heard a gunshot coming from Ernie’s Lunchroom, rushed in, and found the body of a prominent racketeer named Fannen on the ground lying face down on the floor of the restaurant. About half the floor was recently mopped and still wet, leaving three pairs of footprints in the water. The mop was left leaning against the wall next to a right handprint left by the shooter. Four customers were in the restaurant at the time of the murder, sitting at the bar. The cash register was still open and had just been rung up at $8.75. Ernie, the owner and only employee of Ernie’s Lunchroom, witnessed the murder and stated that Fannen had been shot from point-blank range by a shooter who was leaning against the wall, clearly displayed …show more content…

One piece of evidence which leads us towards the culprit is the handprint located on the wall where the shooter placed their right hand. This handprint shows that the shooter shot the gun with their left hand. As a rule, someone who shoots a gun with their left hand is likely left-handed. This leads us to believe that the culprit is left-handed. A second piece of evidence discovered at the scene of the crime is the sets of footprints left behind on the wet floor. The footprints marked X come from the unmopped area and were left by the shooter because they come from the handprint, As a rule, one of the three customers sitting on the dry floor, either customer B, C, or D, would have had to come from the dry part of the floor to the spot where the handprint is located to leave footprints in the way they were left. The position of the utensils and coffee cups on the bar is the final piece of evidence which leads us towards the identity of the culprit. Customers A, B, and D have their coffee cups and utensils on the right side of their plate, whereas customer C has the utensils and coffee cup on the left side of their plate.
