The book Exploring World Religions through Dialogue by Pim Valkenberg blew me away by just reading the introduction. I was extremely taken away about the ways to approach different world religions. The most important idea that I took away from the chapter was the dialogue that happens between the insider and outsider. The “outsider” will observe a specific religion and the “insider” offers the best way to introduce the religions. Both try to relate their approaches to their religious backgrounds. The book addresses Christianity in all parts. This text “begins with the outsider approach because this represents the mind-set of most western students of Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism” (Valkenberg 8).
