This specific anthropology uses skeletal remains to fill in the unanswered questions and reveal scientific truth. Forensic Anthropology focuses on human osteology and the interpretation of the human skeleton. Through the study of the human skeleton, attempts are made to reconstruct as much as possible about a human’s life and death. Through this process of reconstruction, observing specific features on the bone remains helps to develop a “biological profile” on the individual. The “biological profile” can include the determination of the sex, the age of death, and the circumstances surrounding death. Bones and their formations pose as answers and clues. The importance of this field is often overlooked and underappreciated. I chose this topic …show more content…
For example, another good example of clues to age determination are osteons, which are “minute tubes containing blood vessels.” Younger adults tend to have fewer and larger osteons while older adults have smaller and more osteons. Another example is sutures in the cranium also known as cranial sutures. These sutures are commonly seen in childhood and in adulthood; these lines slowly start to dissipate at various rates due to bone remodeling. All of these indicators are taken into consideration during age …show more content…
Through very detailed analysis, observation, and interruption patterns of key indicators are developed. This field is often used in a legal setting. As I said before the analysis of human bones reveals scientific truth. This scientific truth can be used to bring justice, for example how a crime actually took place or determine who was the victim in the specific circumstance. It enables the “justice system to discover the facts and circumstances surrounding criminal acts.” Forensic Anthropology goes hand in hand with Biological Anthropology. Both are used to help us better understand our surroundings, by helping us determine patterns. They give us answers to how and why things happen or came about. Both fields of anthropology give us incite into the past. By studying both, conclusions can be drawn about similarities between other primates; for example, similarities between chimpanzees and humans by looking at the osteology of both. To me, Forensic Anthropology is crucial in our vicious world today. Today, truth is hard to come by and this field helps to reveal facts that can be supported by evidence. It reiterates how important detail is over and over
