In his article "In Pursuit of Happiness: Better Living from Plato to Prozac," Mark Kingwell describes how there has been many debates on the meaning of happiness for many years yet still a singular, justifiable definition eludes society. The pursuit to define and understand happiness has invited several debates, questions, arguments, and suggestions alike. In 1996, a hand full of genetic and behavioral studies suggest evidence that one’s achievable degree of happiness is genetically decided, with evidences showing that no achievement will change your happiness, you are either happy or you’re not. Some studies demonstrated a correlation between dopamine levels in the brain and expressions of personal satisfaction, while others indicated that
While, also maintaining the idea that happiness is something everyone is entitled to and that each person is responsible for their own happiness. However, my definition of happiness differs. I define happiness as a state when life fulfills your needs and you are satisfied with your inner self. Happiness is contentment. It is not joy.
People want to be happy, isn’t that right? Well, aren’t they?’” (Bradbury 56). All people want in life is to be happy. They want to be untroubled and not have to stress about what’s going on in the real world.
Happiness. It’’s the thing everyone in life wants to find, the thing everyone strives for, the one resource in the world that can be available to everyone at any given time. But what is it truly? What can be defined as true happiness?
In society today, the word happiness plastered around the media. But that begs the question, what is happiness? Some say it is a constant state, something I could reach. Others believe it is something that can only be scattered throughout my life. From the time I was young I have been told that all I need is happiness.
The Websters Dictionary portrays or defines happiness as a state of content,satisfaction or euphoria. Happiness is something that cannot be forced or simulated and it is more that just a simple feeling or emotion. It is more than just a noun used in the vocabulary of the average third grade child. Happiness is an undescribable sentiment that anything can experience depending on that specific thing. It is natural and one of a kind.
Happiness is an emotional or a mental state of mind. If a person chooses to be happy, and persue's the attraction of maintaining to stay happy then a person will eventually be happy. Being happy has a huge role on how a person sees things in life. If a person is positive and attracts all positiveness, then they will eventually be happy. But, if a person is negative then that will result in being miserable in every aspect of life.
Imagine people going through life simply feeling incredible. Imagine, you have never felt emotions like sadness, anger or fear. It would be a utopian world, wouldn’t it? But how would you know you are happy, or that your life is perfect without experiencing difficult times? In fact, these feelings are not only part of life but also, they are necessary to people's well-being.
To completely define happiness, research must be conducted. To define happiness properly different philosophers, world religions, scientific research, and personal experiences must be considered. Happiness is defined differently around the world. Some people trust money and wealth to give them happiness, others assume exceptional relationships are the key, but happiness as we know it is dead. I believe that the true definition of happiness will never be found because happiness is always changing.
Happiness is a beautiful abstract. Primarily, it is a beautiful thing that is not supposed to be explained but rather to be felt. That is the reason why people have different versions of happiness. Happiness is a wide-ranging feeling that most people find hard to wonder about. We all feel happiness in the course of our lives but the real deal is, do we know what happiness really is?
What is happiness? Some people said that happiness makes their own life happy. Some people said that happiness is that people achieve their goals. The goal could be easy to finish, tough to achieve or cooperate with other people. It is not easy to give a definition for happiness because it depends on the meaning that people set.
Happiness appears to be the idea that every person seeks for and wants. In today's world, there are so many things that can get a person happy. Happiness to me is a kind of satisfaction that I desire merely as important as any other person. The word happiness is difficult to describe, and it comes in several meanings with every different person. Throughout seeking for pleasure, I discovered that my joy in life is in some significant three areas; health, my daughter, and education.
It is true that people hardly make a precise definition of happiness. In my opinion, it is difficult for people to realize what happiness is because they are preoccupied with the various things in life that they think need to accomplish first before they can be happy. While people might not know what exactly it is, there are some measures to attain happiness. Primarily, many tend to concentrate majority of their energy and time on studying, working and so forth, that defining happiness does not concern them anymore.
How does someone know if they are truly happy? Much of society have come to associate happiness with the pursuits of personal pleasures or that which makes us “feels good”. When we feel good we display positive expression of emotions such as joy, laughter, kindness and fewer negative emotions such as anger, hate, and sadness. To some people our happiness is already determined through our genes. Some people seek happiness through money and material possessions.
Happiness can be defined in many different ways depending on who you are talking to. To me, it can be found listening to my favorite music with the volume turned all the way up. Through this experience I am able to immerse myself in something I truly love and be a be a better, lighter version of myself. For some, happiness is living in the moment and experiencing life as it passes, but for others it means living a life of virtue. Though happiness may look different for everyone, it is something that everyone is striving for.
