This book takes place during the 1930s in a small town called Maycomb, Alabama. This novel follows a young white girl's perspective on her father, defending a black man in court, while a larger story unfolds.
The movement of New Jersey authority in order to protect students from bullying within the state represents a step forward the children’s civil rights. Bullying is identified not just a harmful action towards students, but also considered as a violation to the rights of the student to be in school. Therefore, New Jersey Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, the one of the toughest Anti-Bullying law in the nation, was created in order to strengthen and overcome the loopholes in the 2002 Anti-Bullying law (U.S. Department of Education, 2011). In Idaho under “Jared’s Law” a student found guilty of cyberbullying could be fined guilty of a misdemeanor, in Maryland under “Grace’s Law” bullies could be fined up to $500, and sentenced up to one year in jail. In South Carolina on June 12, 2006 former Governor Sanford signed bill 3573 in to effect that is supposed to protect the victim from school harassment. Although all states are required to have some type of bullying laws put into place wouldn’t it be nice to never have to get this far. That is why it is very important as teachers and parents to have preventive measures put into place to guide our children, let them know they we are here to protect them. Ethan #10 In ROWVA Elementary there has been an increase in bullying. People are feeling hurt and left out because of this problem. Bullying can get very dangerous and life threatening, like suicidal thought because they want it over with, they could become a bullying when they get older, and more dangerous. There are lot’s of ways we can help.
The law regarding schools’ ability to punish students for disrupting the learning environments in schools needs to be strengthened. Schools in this day and age have been facing a more and more frequent problem of having to deal with harassment and bullying online for while the internet does not increase the amount of bullying it does provide a medium to do so that our legal system is not fully prepared to handle. The internet gives students the ability to put out opinions that can very easily make it to a wide audience and indirectly impact the learning environment regardless if there are at school or not. Teachers have even become targets of their own students harassment and it is uncertain whether it is the school 's responsibility to deal with it or not.
Bullying occurs every day due to social pressures, cultural insensitivity, and learned behaviors during formative years, and therefore is a pervasive issue that affects both the bully and the bullied, causing self-esteem issues, mental health problems, delay of social skills, and should be addressed and prevented by parents. Bully is a very widespread problem and affect many individuals, especially students. One out of every five students report being bullied (Pacer's National Bullying Prevention Center, 2016). Victims must learn to stand up for themselves. Consequences need to be required when it comes to bullying.
Being said, students spend most of their time at school, it is the most common place where bullying takes place, especially in middle school. It is becoming a trouble as it is interfering with the student’s academics during school. Bullying is a school matter, school administrators need to deal with situations, and have regulations to create a safe environment for all students. In the article of “School Bullying Declines, Federal Government Says” by Mike Kennedy, strongly supports the idea of helping bullied victims. Research shows students who are a victim struggle in school and would often skip class, furthermore are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol, be depressed and are at higher risk of committing suicide (Kennedy).
In most cases, when we think about bullying it is approached from a psychological perspective but there is a sociological perspective that is not talked about as much. Sociologists study actions and relationships in terms of the social contexts in which people live their lives. In other words, sociology is the study of society and social interactions. Psychologists study behaviour in terms of the attributes and processes inside each individual. They focus on the people involved in the situation rather than the situation as a whole.
A girl in Musselman high school created a Myspace page dedicated to making fun of a fellow student’s sexuality (Doc C). This is a good example of why teenagers should not be trusted to say whatever they want on the internet, if there were more restrictions than that page would have never been created. Another part in preventing cyber bullying is getting the schools staff to recognize it. It is up to the staff to recognize that harassment (Doc F). Schools need to have a concern for the students well being ( Doc F).
Bullying is a phenomenon existing as long as humans exist. The fact that it didn’t have a name for years doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a widespread way of behavior, in cases where two different types of people were involved ; the strong and the weak ones. Although bullying is considered as a form of aggression, or in some cases as an infringement of the human rights, “bullying is commonly regarded as an aspect of aggression”. (Roland and Idsoe, 2001), there are significant differences between them , the most important of which that “bullying is different from peer conflict. It is conflict between individuals that do not share equal physical and / or psychological power.

Bullying is an undesirable, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves actual disparity of power. According to Megan Brooks bullying is a serious public health problems, with significant short-and long-term psychological consequences for the child who is bullied and the child who is the bully. This only tells us that bullying can lead to difficulty that a certain children may experience and will have either short or long term problem. “Bullying has long been tolerated as a rite of passage among children and adolescents, but it has lasting, negative consequences and cannot simply be ignored.” Committee chair Frederick Rivera, MD.
Bullying has been a very challenging issue to resolve for many years. It is increasingly spreading by the use of social media, where most bullies spread malice at the touch of a button. Bullying’s prevalence has lead to numerous consequences such as anxiety, depression, diminished effort in academics, and suicide. Many schools have implemented effective anti-bullying policies to prevent these consequences from occurring, but this school’s current policy hasn’t incorporated strict rules and consequences to battle issues associated with bullying. In order to eliminate bullying as a whole, the school must implement a new policy which imposes strict consequences on bullies.
Bullying in Schools What seems fun and harmless for some students, is painful and degrading to others. Bullying has been a critical issue around schools, but before it was not as dangerous and know as it is now. These do not means bullying was not happening, it means it was not taken into consideration by parents or teachers. They thought it was just peer pressure or a kids game, and sooner or later the kids would be friends again. At one point, bullies think it’s normal to be mean and abusive to other students.
