In “How to Handle a Bully,” by Kathiann Kowalski, an experienced journalist, Kowalski reports the different strategies to stop bullying. She informs that bullying is at its peak in the late teenage years, but can start in an early age. Kowalski concurs that girls intimidates as much as boys; however, they do it differently. She explores many reasons why bullying occurs at the first place, and who starts bullying. Kowalski exemplifies the situations that victims could be in, and the solution on how to handle the bully.
According to “The Gay Lesbian, and Straight Education Network”, there are approximately 15 states that have anti-bullying laws on the books while 45 others do not. The laws within these states focus on enumeration which lists different groups and individuals that might be targeted, and provides indicators to look for. In addition to anti-bullying laws, there are 13 states which have non-discrimination policies on their books as well, which include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes. Susan Ladika states that, “An increasing share of K-12 schools in the United States are reporting incidents of online bullying, sometimes with tragic consequences”. This evidence shows that schools are not doing enough to protect children from bullying. This article made me realize that bullying can start at such a young age and this topic should be brought up more often to stop bullying. The law regarding schools’ ability to punish students for disrupting the learning environments in schools needs to be strengthened. Schools in this day and age have been facing a more and more frequent problem of having to deal with harassment and bullying online for while the internet does not increase the amount of bullying it does provide a medium to do so that our legal system is not fully prepared to handle. The internet gives students the ability to put out opinions that can very easily make it to a wide audience and indirectly impact the learning environment regardless if there are at school or not. Teachers have even become targets of their own students harassment and it is uncertain whether it is the school 's responsibility to deal with it or not.
Bullying In America For Age Groups 11-18 Summary One of the serious issues in America is bullying for age groups 11-18, boys and girls. Bullying is unwanted behaviour meant to hurt or frighten someone on purpose and is repeated behaviour. The common types of bullying is verbal bullying, social/relational aggression bullying and physical bullying. Bullying can lead to suicide and can also cause negative health problems such as anxiety, depression, stomachaches and headaches.
McClatchy writes for a national newspaper in Minnesota and is currently drawing attention to cyber bullying. She explores new methods to combat this new type of bullying, which is derived from the internet. This article provides examples on several solutions that have been employed by different states to resolve the issue. Many state governments have come up with new laws requiring schools to construct policies to counter cyber bullying. The article also quotes a professor from John Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public health; he states that the increased usage and reliance on the Internet and smartphones will have a big impact towards cyber bullying.

Bullying is an undesirable, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves actual disparity of power. According to Megan Brooks bullying is a serious public health problems, with significant short-and long-term psychological consequences for the child who is bullied and the child who is the bully. This only tells us that bullying can lead to difficulty that a certain children may experience and will have either short or long term problem. “Bullying has long been tolerated as a rite of passage among children and adolescents, but it has lasting, negative consequences and cannot simply be ignored.” Committee chair Frederick Rivera, MD.
Bullying has been named an “emerging public health issue requiring intervention” (Ansary, Elias, Greene, & Green, 2015, p. 27). As a major problem in schools around the world, the issue of bullying must be addressed in order to keep students physically and emotionally safe.
