In Barbara Mellix literacy narrative “From Outside, In”, she took us through her life as an outsider to eventually getting in. A young Mellix, along with her family developed public personas that spoke standard English. In public, Barbara's enunciation, articulation and grammar changed dramatically from how she spoke at home. She felt uncomfortable when she puts on this persona and felt like she was basically betraying herself. After couple years of putting on this front she became this front.
In the article “Let Them Eat Dog”, Jonathan Safran Foer addresses the taboo subject of humans using dogs as a form of protein and sustenance. He analyzes the intelligence of our canine companions in comparison to the species most Americans would believe to be acceptable to consume, such as: pigs, cows, and chickens. While their intelligence is relatively similar, even the most devoted of carnivores still wouldn’t consider dog as a meal option. “Despite the fact that it’s legal in 44 states” (Foer para 1), poses no additional health risks than any other meat, and tastes just as good, American people still refuse to cook the family dog. Foer goes on to mention how millions of dogs, as well as cats, are euthanized every year just in the United
The play” Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” was an interesting look at bullying through the eyes of teenage peanuts characters. We all remember our innocent childhood friends that walked us through the experiences of life, introducing new ideas and everyday interactions. Well, those kids grew up and Charlie Brown and the crew now show us the reality of the teenage struggles in the 21st century. The interpretation was very insightful and the characters felt real, creating a connection with childhood friends and reminding us of the reasons we loved them.

In the story of The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog, Perry displayed empathy towards the boys situation. He did this in numerous ways. First, Perry was sensitive to the child, as well as, he paid attention to the boy's nonverbal communication.
Octavia Butler uses symbolism to highlight how the irregular occurrence of time travel forces Dana to accept slavery and how her past will “live” in her presence. Dana is forced to assimilate to the past because she has no control over her fate, and her life in the past revolves around slavery. The fact that Dana quickly transitions from the past to the present shows that she is quick to accept this time of slavery even though she is not mentally prepared for it. After Dana is disturbed by the inhumanity that the children show by playing an auction game, she says, “The ease. Us, the children… I never realized how easily people could be trained to accept slavery” (Butler 101).
In The Dog Stars, the world is in chaos after a blood flu kills most of the human population. With the world in shambles, things change. It truly becomes survival of the fittest; doing whatever it takes to survive. I think that Heller is saying that once civilization falls apart, we go back to our innate function; survival. We don’t care about anyone else except ourselves.

By: Cameron Morsovillo 8B #13 The Novel I read for the first quarter is “The Honest Truth” by Dan Gemeinhart and this novel plays more of a slow book and sometimes fast pace. This novel is very detailed and action packed with several main characters including Mark and his special dog Beau. They go on a adventure leaving home which leads them to wandering across the united states with his notebook and other things from his backpack but mainly his only friend there is his dog Beau. His family and friends are really worried sick about him and wondering when will he come home.
In the short story, “The Last Dog” by Katherine Patterson a guy named Brock leaves the Dome. Brock is probably a teenager and he leaves the Dome to go and explore. The main thing I learned from this story is always try new things even if other people don’t agree. I enjoyed “The Last Dog” because I like how Brock saved the dog. I also liked it because I think I might have helped a dog if I was in that situation.
The book, A Dog’s Purpose, follows a dog who searches for his unique purpose in life. The canine experiences reincarnation four times, and in every one of his different lives, he tries to accomplish making his human happy. In his first life, he is Toby and lives in the Yard with a woman called Señora. Toby adjusts to his life in the Yard and assumes his purpose is to make Señora smile. He comforts her and takes pride in being her favorite.
Every piece of literature can be compared to others to determine which is better. But what if the two pieces being compared are the same story? Anton Chekhov, in the late 1800s, wrote the short story “The Lady with the Pet Dog” about a man who views women as an “inferior race” and constantly cheats on his wife until he finds a young lady he truly falls in love with. Joyce Carol Oates’ story, written almost 100 years later, also named “The Lady with the Pet Dog” is about a woman who cheats on her husband with a lover she truly falls in love with. Even with these two stories being very similar as much as having the same title, one can be determined as the better piece.

Humans and animals are loyal, friendly, and understanding species which allows them to understand each other. People and animals are like no other, they can share a special bond and learn to love one another other. But, there are reasons why they are so loyal to one and other, why they are friendly to one and other, and why they understand each other. These bonds are often unbreakable. One way people and animals get along is when they show loyalty to each other.
Owning a dog can actually have a special impact in our lives. Firstly, my dogs have changed my life in a couple of ways because at first, I didn’t care about them, all I had in mind was
