Intelligent design creationist Jonathan Wells has a book titled “Ten questions to ask your biology teacher about evolution.” In this book he tries convincing and encouraging the reader to not believe the theory of evolution. There are many answers to the ten questions that he brings up in his book, but the first regarding the origin of life is the topic in this case. The origin of life has been a mystery since the beginning of man, and many people, Jonathan Wells included, disregard the scientific studies on the case. Jonathan Wells raises the question in his book, “Why do textbooks claim that the 1953 Miller-Urey experiment shows how life’s building blocks may have formed on the early Earth - when conditions on the early earth were probably …show more content…

Wachtershauser says that amino acids could have been created deep in the earth’s crust and these amino acids were brought up with other hydrothermal material into colder waters. Experimental research shows that minerals inside hydrothermal vents have the same properties to enzymes and are able to create simple organic molecules such as methanol and formic acid out of dissolved carbon dioxide in the water. A man by the name of Joan Oro found that the nucleotide base adenine can be made from hydrogen cyanide and ammonia in a water solution. His experiment created a lot of adenine, the molecules of which were formed by 5 molecules of hydrogen cyanide. Experiments done later showed that the other RNA and DNA nucleobases can be created with simulated prebiotic chemistry with a reduced …show more content…

Lane talks about how not only did the asteroids and meteors that crashed into the earth during an asteroid bombardment bring water, they also brought life as well. These asteroids and meteors composed of dirty ice and organic molecules. These asteroids served up a similar array of amino acids to those that were formed by the electrified gases being tested on in the Miller-Urey experiment. Meteorites have also been found to compose sugars and lipids along with amino acids and have been predicted to have existed in our ancient solar system. This means that life could be forming anywhere in other regions of our galaxy. Dr. Lane also talks about how there was bacteria at least 2.5 million years before the first complex organisms appeared in fossil records, meaning that there was a lot of time for life to
