In the story, “Fighter” by Walter Dean Myers, and throughout the story, Billy is fighting himself and life. First off, in beginning of the story it states on page 27, “Billy Gates told his wife that he was just going to the gym to work out. If he’d told her the truth, that he was going to fight again, he knew she would have cried.” I think this shows that Billy is going to fight, but he knows his wife does not want him to fight. But, he knows that he needs to fight, but not necessarily wants to fight.
Confession Of a Nice Negro, or Why I Shaved My Head In Robin Kelly’s article titled confession Of a Nice Negro or why l shaved my head is about a black man whose family had gone ahead to a movie theater and was trying to catch up with them. This man in a rush to the movie theater was mistaken by the cashier for a robber, because of the way he looked. He had a Yankee baseball cup and a scarf over his nose and mouth, which he might have forgotten that a black man’s appearance is essential in public because of the way they are perceived mostly criminals, therefore when they step out in public they should behave or look appropriate. In Kelly’s article he referred to himself as a nice Negro meaning funny and black with a lighter skin complexion.
Beyond by Graham Mcnamee was a fantastic book. Beyond was an extremely suspenseful and mysterious book. Government paper The Texas prison system is a very cruel cutthroat system that has many problems And racial issues. The system is deeply embedded in the state’s budget, but also in its political, cultural, and social fabric and impacts the lives of millions of people. From the wrong the accused, actual criminal and racial profiled African Americans and hispanics to the wardens, prison guards, judges and politicians who work on or for the prisons. Through his Book “Texas Tough” Robert Perkinson shows an effective argument against how Texas is using the prison system as a way to control and unethically treat African Americans and other minorities just like they did from 1870-1965 with the jim crows laws through the criminal system by using statistical evidence, Historical evidence, and Historical pictures of african american prisoners being treated like slaves by the Texas prison system.
The Journal of Biddy Owens is a very interesting book. Some of the characters in the book were fictional but most of the event were real. In this book it was very clear that the author Walter Dean Myers clearly did his research because most of the events that happened actually happened in history. In the book The Journal of Biddy Owens: The Negro Leagues the author Walter Dean Myers did a fantastic job of describing everything that happened in the book.
In the “Mis-Education of the Negro” (Woodson, C.G., 1933), Carter G. Woodson, the founder of the black history movement, argues that many of the black spiritual leaders of the church have led the people astray. He suggests that far too many pastors of institution of spiritual uplift are manipulating the people for their own self-centered gains. Moreover, that their interest is only to benefit themselves.
I feel as though my countless hours of binge-watching science fiction TV shows has finally paid off. I am now in the position to create a team instead of cringe at the groups that do not act as a team and are unsuccessful in the mission. I now have the power to ensure that the three people have the ability to make smart, moral decisions. With that being said, I would take my father, my aunt, and the UT Chancellor’s Honors Program’s own, Joshua Dobbs. I believe each of the people I have chosen have what it takes to face new challenges, and even new planets.
In the poem, “Becoming and Going: An Oldsmobile Story” by Gerald Hill the speaker is traveling down a road in the Fort Qu’appelle Valley. He notices his father and his son are also driving down this road. The speaker then begins to list the two men’s characteristics. As he lists them we see that the father and the son have both similarities and differences in their personalities.
Partisanship and Misconceptions Introduction The saying “the pen is mightier than the sword” is widely known and referenced. However, contrary to popular belief, actions may speak louder than words. This rings true in the case of Michelle Carter, this specific case has been a reoccurring debate, in terms of whether Michelle Carter should be found guilty or not guilty for the death of her boyfriend, Conrad Roy III.

I strongly agree books can play a significant role in our lives. Using the book “Tyrell,” by Cole Booth displays how he overcame adversity he faced by standing up for himself and staying optimistic. Tyrell was an 18-year-old boy who lived in a tough neighborhood in Brooklyn and wound up joining a fierce gang called “Bone Thugs.” As part of the gang, Tyrell was on a bad path and was at risk of not graduating high school.
Carter Godwin Woodson remains a legendary figure among black scholars, especially in the field of Afro-American history. He initiated the annual celebration of the Negro history, which marked a stride in an attempt to eliminate racial based discrimination. Woodson’s commitment to scholarly work was formidable. For instance, he pioneered research work on Negro migration, history of nonprofessional’s, the mind of the Negro, and Negro’s orations. His numerous work shed light on the extent of economic exploitation, cultural isolation, and segregation that dominated the society.
Marielle Apronti Prof. Oscar Williams AAFS 311 4 March 2018 The Trans-Atlantic slave trade was the most important factor when considering the early development of European capitalism. The arrival of the Portuguese to the West African Coast and their establishment of trading and slave ports throughout the continent set in stone a trend of exploitation of Africa 's labor and human resources. Europeans greatly benefited from the Trans-Atlantic trade, as it allowed them to aggregate raw materials such as sugar and cotton to manufacture products that funded the Industrial Revolution. In the book “Capitalism and Slavery” by Eric Williams he addresses the origin of “Negro” history, the economic and political impact of slavery in Great Britain, the role of the American Revolution and the decline of slavery in Great Britain.

Black Boy Book Review Richard Wright begins his biography in 1914 with a story of his never-ending curiosity and need to break the rules. Although this biography only extends through the early years of his life, Wright manages to display the harsh world that a black member of society faced in the South during the time of the Jim Crow laws. Wright explains the unwritten customs, rules and expectations of blacks and whites in the south, and the consequences faced when these rules are not followed strictly.
