My focus poem is “HiiiPower” and my poet is Kendrick Lamar. His full name is Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, he’s better known as his stage name Kedrick Lamar formerly known as K-Dot. He was born in Compton, California on June 17, 1987. As the presence of the 1980s crack trade and West Coast gang activity increased, Lamar grew up around a lot of gang violence, but he seemed more influenced than harmed by it. He attended Centennial High School as a teenager and he was a straight-A student. What these lines mean is that Lamar is now urging everyone else to follow in his footsteps and start making their own moves, if opportunity doesn't knock build a door. At the end of the third and last verse the lines are "Cause we been off them slave ships/ Got our own pyramids, write our own hieroglyphs" (Lines 71-72). And lastly what these lines mean is that This line represents a step up from one man being enlightened, to a group or even a nation sharing in this enlightenment. This is what Lamar hopes to one day see, he hopes to be able to influence all these people to do what he was previously urging them to do. The repetition of the idea of this line stresses the idea that Kendrick Lamar wants everyone to get off the typical route and take their own path and
