People take risks, be adventurous and embrace the feeling of fear. In “Learning to Read” Chloe took a risk by learning how to read when she wasn’t supposed to. The outcome of that risk was that she became successful and got a cabin for herself and because she took that risk, she knew her rights and wrongs and that impacted a lot of laws and situations in modern-day life. In “ A Kenyan Teen’s Discovery: Let There Be Light to Save Lions”, Richard Turere took a risk by creating an invention made with a solar panel, indicator box, and a flashlight which was used to protect his livestock from the lions and to protect the lions from the humans trying to kill them. Richard Turere was a young boy who was working at his father’s farm. There was a problem with the lion eating his livestock. So Richard Turere said “One night he was walking around with a flashlight and discovered the lions were scared of a moving light. A light went on inside him and an idea was born. Richard had invented a system of lights that flash around the cow shed, mimicking a human walking around with a flashlight.” He discovered that lions are scared of lights so he got the idea to build an invention. Richard Turere made the “Lion Lights” to make sure the lions don’t eat his livestock.Richard Turere uses books and knowledge to help him with that invention and with the help of that, a lot of people around the world use it for other reasons. If Richard Turere had not taken that risk, Kenya would still have those problems and the population would decrease in both lions and livestock.With all those decisions that Richard Turere had to face, taking risk can lead to bad things or good things but people will wonder what would have happened if they simply took a risk. In The Pearl by John Steinbeck, Kino and his family took a risk by bringing the pearl that Kino found into their lives. Kino discovered that, “It was as large as a sea-gull’s egg. It was the greatest pearl in the world” (19). This means that when Kino was pearl diving, he came across an oyster which had a big pearl and Kino is describing how large it is and what it was worth. Kino had a big future for his family, but that pearl did not give him the wishes he wanted, instead it gave him something that would haunt him forever.
