This cartoon piece “Monsanto’s Reasons for Fighting GMO Labeling? It Love You” was published in various publications such as Yes! Magazine, Greenpeace, the Center for Media and Democracy, and PBS’s Urban Conversion on October 24, 2013. The author is explicitly stating that the research being conducted about GMO’s from consumers increase the levels of global warming. As Mohr states,“food will cause consumers to get on their computer and research what a GMO is....major cause of global warming” (418). This claim is not exactly as effective as the writer portrays it to be due to the fact that we do not exactly know if consumers will always go straight to their computers to research what a GMO is. In today’s society, modern technology has given the ability to be connected to internet at anytime, so in most cases, consumers will go to the most convenient item, such as their phones, to research anything that concerns them. Stress, especially in young and older adults is more common than anything, and has been proven to lead to death. Still, even though consumers will read the articles, they could actually be happy from what they read and use the advice that was given in the articles to change their eating habits. This shows that the writer is somewhat getting organized in his thoughts, yet however is still not responding to alternative views. The author still expresses a child-like and common sense character when trying to explain how stress is another major effect. Even though the author is a well-educated man, we do not know if his reason is credible for his intended audience because he is educated in the environment, not psychology.
