James Harden played with Russell Westbrook on the Oklahoma City Thunder during the first 3 years of his career. After three years of trying to win a championship and an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Lebron James’ heat in 2012 James Harden made a grievous choice to leave the Oklahoma city Thunder. In every year since Harden has left Westbrook he has been an all star, made the all NBA first team three times and led the Houston Rockets to the 2nd seed in the Western conference all by himself. James Harden couldn’t have had all of this success without leaving Russell Westbrook. Similar to James Harden, Jaja and Kambili made personal journeys throughout the book. When Kambili and Jaja are at Aunty Ifeoma’s house Amaka thinks that they are strange for not talking, Amaka asks Aunty Ifeoma about their cousins and Aunty Ifeoma tells Amaka that “[Amaka] is free to have [her] own opinions” (Adichie 142). Back at home Kambili and Jaja are not allowed to have their own opinions. Being able to express your own thoughts is something Kambili and Jaja never do because at home if they went against Papa they would be punished. They do not express their own opinions even while they are at Aunty Ifeoma’s house because they are only used to the life that Papa forces them to live where they can’t express their own opinions. Next, Kambili and Jaja overhear Amaka talking to Aunty Ifeoma about them. Amaka asks Aunty Ifeoma if “[Aunty Ifeoma’s] sure they’re not abnormal” (Adichie 141). Kambili overhearing Aunty Ifeoma and Amaka talking about her placid behavior opens Kambili’s eyes to her behavior. Before Kambili did not think that the way she acts will affect how others think of her but now she understands that she has to change her behavior for people to like
