To begin with, in the book Saints at the River by Ron Rash the ongoing dilemma about the body and whether or not to retrieve it from the river or leave it in the river, was a heated one. There were many reasons to leave her body under the water as were there many for retrieving it. Due to many laws, not disturbing the wildlife, creating a precedence, and how long the body had been in the river, there were many people who backed the idea of leaving the body there. However, there were people who agreed with removing the body from the grasp of the Tamassee river, due to the excruciating mental anguish it put on the parents, the religion of the family, and that the body should be buried in ground and not left in a watery tomb with its soul imprisoned

Francis Chan once wrote, "True love is about sacrifice for the sake of the ones you love." This quotation is base on the bible verse 1 John 3:16, which says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Indeed true love comes with a sacrifice. On the Rainy River Analysis One of the most compelling books I’ve read is The Things They Carried. This book is filled with many short stories of the Vietnam war. The Author tells the story from the perspective of the soldiers. This books shows us the sacrifice these men had to give for are freedom. The Things They Carried has many great stories by Tim O’brien, but On The Rainy River was my favorite and seemed to follow the psychological literary lens.
In Tim O'brien's “On the Rainy River” it is the story about a man who has been conscripted to go the vietnam war, a war which he himself does not believe in due to the fact that he believes “when a nation goes to war it must have reasonable confidence in the justice and imperative of its cause” by saying this I can see that he is against death and has a negative approach towards the idea of a war. Later on in the story he says “I was a coward. I went to the war. ”(pg.173) I disagree with the statement he made saying “I was a coward.
