Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson shows us the life of a young teenager with her mouth tied shut. The name of this teenager is Melinda Sordino, Melinda has grown significantly from the beginning to the end of Speak. Throughout all of this there have been three main symbols, a mirror, trees, and an old janitor's closet. These symbols expressed the importance of self-esteem, overcoming obstacles, and sanctuary.

During the summer she called the cops at a party, no one knew why she kept it a secret, but she soon tells of what really happened. She changed a lot throughout the story from being depressed, staying home and hiding in a closet at school, to becoming open and telling her secret of what happened to her.

Book report I've read the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. The book is about the teenage girl Melinda, who has just started Merryweather High. She knew from the beginning that she wouldn't fit in, that she wouldn't be one of the popular girls. Every one hates her after what happened during summer, her previous friends don't want to know nothing about Melinda anymore and the rumours about her aren't so positive either. She will forever be the girl who called the police in the middle of the party and no one bothered to look up the reason behind the call.
Speak is a book that deals with a very dark subject. It is something that will need an open-mind and also a lot of empathy to comprehend. Our protagonist Melinda Sordino is a girl who was abandoned by her friend due to something she did at the end of the summer party. This journal will explain those connections, and show my thoughts on them, as well as how they have impacted my view on different, related, topics. She chose to be more open at the end than in the beginning because of having come to terms with what had happened to her, and because of her reminding herself it wasn’t her fault.
