Hochschild wrote Strangers in Their own Land for many reasons and for many different people, including anyone in the political realm hoping they might come to comprehend that having empathy for those in a different political party does not equate to abandoning your own parties views, to bring awareness to environmental disasters particularly for the younger population, for anyone in the humanity fields in hopes of learning how to scale the empathy wall allowing them to understand what drives peoples belief systems, but especially for those she interviewed as a way to share their “deep story,” a story that expresses how her subjects feel about their lives and the American political parties (Hochschild 2016: 5 & 16). The breaking down of empathy walls by walking in their shoes, allows the author to write her book from a neutral political perspective which gives her book more clout which is also acknowledged by the author several times during the book. The comprehensive evidence used to write this book work well to support the author’s thesis and subject matter, as well as strengthen the relationship between the methodology and thesis. Towards the end of the book the author “writes” letters to both political parties stating how each could make changes in how they perceive the other party which would help all Americans meet in the middle, while making life impacting changes to policies, laws, environmental and social issues showing the authors ability to take into account other academic and political perspectives. Some improvements to the book include the adding data or answers to unasked questions, such as the author really does not include ways in how to bring both parties or groups together or how to break down the empathy walls, also how right-leaners could improve their plight, they tend to come across as complainers who blame the government along with minorities for their woes, and lean towards the feelings of the self as a victim and/or poor me’s, which is the opposite of what the far-right wants to be seen as, in addition to any documentation on how many minorities and/or women have actually gotten ahead following the same path as Tea Party white males by not cutting in line and how would these Tea Party members would react to those statistics. With this in mind, one might draw a slightly different conclusion of Tea Party members, who are
